How do you get the beta to play?
I preordered the game, now am wondering how to get the beta...? Any thoughts?
Thanks for the help!

The beta hasn't started just yet, once it has (which should be later this month or next month), it'll show up automatically for you to download in Impulse.
I wonder, though. Will you need to check the "show beta releases" option in Impulse? I'm sure we'll hear more when it's released.
Yes. That's exactly what this option is for. ![]()
Ah, thanks for the replys, I thought it had been released already. ![]()
just to make sure i understand it, even though you preorder elemental, it doesnt appear in impulse at all, not in the list or anything, till beta?
You should be glad it isn't out yet or you would have pre-ordered for nothing. Beta (invites) are closed when it is released.
Edit: Double Post delete please.
Correct. Make sure you have the 'show pre-release versions' box ticked as well. See https://forums.elementalgame.com/363075
Where'd you get Oct 29? Frogboy just posted today that the beta will be out before the end of summer, which should certainly be before 10/29.
You are clearly not American
Over here, we use Month/Day/Year. I prefer our method, because we normally say, for example, "October 29th, 2009," not "The 29th of October, 2009."
Anyways, we've been told we'll have the beta on or by September 21st.
I saw enough at PAX to convince me to give the Beta a whirl, and placed my pre-order.
Lemme at it ![]()

what month is the 29th? as far as I know, there are only 12 months. and hopefully Beta hits before 22/09/2009 (Date in standard Day/month/year format)

Grin, you got me.
not american.. but still, i just cant find a logical reason to have the day value, that changes most frequently between the month value, and the year value, since they changle less frequent, ie monthly and Yearly..
Quite a few stories from the "old" days, of lovers sending leathers and meeting up on the wrong day because of the way of writing dates.. breaking manny hearts..
Well, back on track. most hopefully on the day of release, my guess first monday that comes, (or sooner) if you have show beta versions active, it will pop up in the My Games section of Impulse.
I had preordered through this site instead of Impulse, and one Melissa in Stardock Support told me:
Just pre ordered myself. Although I think it's going to be the most exciting game of the year, I can wait... ![]()
As for day/date discussions, you go day/month/year. To do anything else would be like time as mins/secs/hrs or counting 1,2,3,4,5,7,6,8,9,10 - but then you merrycans are a bit sixes and sevens ![]()
Go YYYYMMDD and be happy.
Or just be happy.![]()
As a programmer I have to agree that this would be the most logical/usefull way to display a date. Problem is to get all those other people convinced to change to this format...
Whenever I save files I use that format. So for example 20090908ExcelDoc.xls. Makes stuff much easier to find, especially if you keep lots of revisions.
Anyway, I think we have strayed from the original topic...
While we have strayed, I have to continue it and add that the other reason YYYYMMDD makes sense other than sorting is that it continues the logical order when the time is added, going from largest to smallest.
I understand the argument of using DD/MM/YY (smallest to largest increments in order), I still prefer using MM/DD/YY in common usage just because it better matches how I actually speak. I say August 13th. Not the 13th of August. And so for me, MM/DD/YY is more natural because I don't have to switch the numbers around in my head. Saying one way is silly because the other way is logical is a logical fallacy: one method making sense has no bearing on whether the other method also makes sense, which it does - for different reasons... It all comes down to a matter of preference.
Now when doing anything related to program or when naming files using the date, I use YYYYMMDD - because that is simply superior to the other methods when it comes to sorting and/or finding specific dates.
You should also get an email when your order is charged, that is when you'll get access to the beta. ![]()

Not related to previous posts but since the thread title matches...
Yoohoo, I have pre-ordered! So I followed the indications in the confirmation email, I installed Impulse, then:
1) Go to the registrations area of Impulse by clicking the question mark near the top right corner and selecting "Register a product with Impulse...".
2) Click the "Add Registration" button at the bottom of the window.
A. Copy and paste your serial number into the Serial Number field.
B. Enter the email address you used to place your order, as shown above.
C. If the Product Category and Product do not automatically change to the correct product, change them as necessary.
D. Click "Add Registration".
Ok, all done! Then it told me that "Your registration has been successfully added", but the Elemental Beta doesn't show up in My Games. There's only the Demigo Demo.
is there a problem? Should I wait for something? Contact Stardock?
Thanks for your advice!
