Take Survey 3!

Hey all! Here is survey 3, I just ahve a hard time waiting for Friday! lol, I guess it is the weekly Thursday survey (Now you will get them on Wednesday evenings!) Just kidding. Hey Thursday is pretty cool seeing as how Alpha is planned for a Thursday launch! In just two weeks! WOOT!

Thanks to the contributors who provided questions for this weeks survey. I threw in a couple of my own at the end, sorry I was a lazy bum this week letting you guys do all the hard work of coming up with questions! There are some good ones!

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=r_2bVqpq8cm29uWKL3f1v_2bpg_3d_3d

As always, I will post results when we have a good solid sample and it has gone several hours without an update. Likely Sunday! Hope you enjoy!

I like how the idea of python or other code files were completly 100% for or 100% against.  Almost no in the middle.

I would say that the 3D goggles are out.   nobody was in love with the idea ^_^

Minor non-playable factions seem to get generally positive feedback.   If SD had not put much thought into those before, I wonder if they will now (though, I suspect after Gal Civ, they have put thought into it)

A lot of neutral on multi-screen support, but a few people favored it.   Sadly the number of people who "like" and "love" it is one less than the number neutral for it. (16 for vs. 17 neutral, vs. 2 against)   I wish it were not the case, so I could wave my finger and say "look, majority.  We demand multi-screen support"

I'm kinda shocked at how many people were against hot seat, but perhaps its because it says "split screen" which might have been an accident on my part.  Because honestly, split screen would be dumb unless it was split between monitors (I intended to put "hotseat or split screen" which I imagine would yield different results)

I want multi-screen support    XO X(  ... My new set of brand new 24" widescreen LCDs should be here on Monday to replace my current 8+ year-old dual 20" setup :P If Stardock doesn't support multi-screen displays I hope they at least make the game more intelligent than most. Many (most?) games don't let you side-scroll in the direction of your 2nd monitor - the mouse just goes onto the second screen. And if you accidentally click on the second screen the game minimizes. I'd like SD to at least have a "lock mouse to screen" function that wouldn't necessitate me having to explicitly disable my second monitor whenever I want to play. ... But I'd prefer full multi-screen support ala Supreme Commander :D

That was totally your fault. I don't think I'll play hotseat but I'm very much in favor of it being in the game. Split screen, however, is retarded, considering only one person can play at a time on one computer :P And even split between monitors is silly - there is only one keyboard and one mouse, after all...

Yeah, I would have given much more support for hotseat, but split screen hotseat didn't make any sense to me.

1st option is wrong. Civ 4 has C++, Python and XML modding capabilities. You seem to mention only XML in Civ 4.

I was not referring to Civ4's entire modding system per se. I was referring to its XML component as an example of what an XML system looks like, for people who are not familiar with it.

I still think it's wrong to mention Civ 4 in that context. Most good Civ 4 mods are C++ mods. Something like Fall From Heaven is impossible without C++. So, some people may see Civ 4 and think "Civ 4 had nice mods, i want something like that in Elemental too" and vote for that option, but that option will not allow to make the mods of the same quality in Elemental.

If the Python API is powerful enough and well documented, I'm sure we could come up with some pretty nice mods with it.

Aren't "Going Sauron" mixed up? I always use the example of "Going Sauron" as the "take-down-entire-armies"-channeler as described by Stardock somewhere far back in time.

You are thinking of Sauron pre LOTR when he was in physical form - in the survey I meant as he was in LOTR, working thru others but unable to take a more direct hand in matters....

Your point is well taken though it could be confusing, especially since SD HAS referred to the pre LOTR Sauron as you mentioned.

57 respondents! Time for an update. Please note on question 1 a LOW average rating reflects that

the option is popular.

Download3. Submitted by landisaurus - (Due to length of answers, they will be explained in the body of the question) If there are multiple maps in a single game, how should they be accessable. A. only through portals/stairs in very specific locations, allowing for the maps to be different sizes B. Through phasing, planer walking, and everything else (possible phasing units might exist on both planes at the same time); forcing the maps all to be the same size so things sync up C. Same as option B, except force units into one plane or the other, and have a scaling feature so the maps can be different sizes (phasing units may have a range of locations into which they come through when switching planes/going-underground) D. All of the Above, I love the idea of multiple maps but am unsure how to do it. I'd leave it to the devs because I don't know the complications of programing it. E. I vote against multiple maps
