Cloth map print service.

Would stardock go for merchandising of this sort?

Is it a viable idea for Stardock to provide a service for printing out player maps?

n.b. The player sends an extracted map-file to SD, plus some $ + S&H and they have the file printed on a A2 size (depending on mapsize) cloth, then send it back to player.

Printing out on paper is always possible, even if by screencapping and editing the results.

Would a world map be visible enough for long enough into a single game to be worth doing this.

Will a single game last long enough?

A sandbox game would, but with a desire for a strong story driven campaign, I doubt this will be open ended.

Pro:

+ maps man! they are great!

+ Players bond with their gameworld more.

+ technically possible IMHO.

Con:

- games might not last long enough for a map to be usefull or even be delivered before game ends.

- costs money.

- SD would need to snag a printer to do these one offs.

I would bet Kinko's would be able to do something like this, CafePress might also.

I highly doubt that SD would want to branch out into doing this. I'll check CafePress and see if they offer anything like this.

CafePress will print you a large, custom poster for $21.

I suppose if cloth was a big deal you could have them print it on a T-Shirt and you could cut it out. :D

Kinko's or Office max may have some options, too. They have done some weird print jobs for me.

Get your mind out of the gutter. :P

64-bit megamap. Just for this.

Creating a png of the cloth map would do the trick. Especially if you can select the size (and have the option to select really big sizes). Then you can choose which service to print it for you.

A good print option wouldn't be a lot of work. Otherwise we will mod it in :-)

Why do i get the feeling i will more mod the game than playing it ;-)

@gabberkooij:

Probably the same here, :D, I've spent more time modding civ and before that oolite and before that homeworld than actually playing them... the mandatory exception being morrowwind/oblivion, but only due to being too busy with the other mods. :P

@Denryu:

shirts aren't big enough...600pound people would need to become the norm for A2 size shirts to be stocked at a printers'.

;)

I'll go check into printing services in the Netherworld(EU) where I'm from.

I rarely play GC2 anymore, I'm so wrapped up in modding it.

i'd like a cloth map to just hang on a wall.
