Freezing/lag during LAN play

Hello!

A friend and I have been playing Sins/entrenchment over LAN lately and it's been hella fun, but the further we get into the game the more freezing/lag problems I've been getting. I have a decent machine so it should not be a problem for me. I even tried turning down the settings all the way and the same thing happens. My friend which is on a laptop has to turn down his settings somewhat because of his limitations and his game skips but it never actually freezes for a couple of seconds and that is what is happening to me in the game. Every 20 seconds or so I freeze for about 5 seconds and this repeats itself over and over again. It's at a point where the game we are in is unplayable (for me atleast).

This has also happened on my older machine before playing a LAN game and back then I thought it was my computer.

The game has 4 players. My friend and I against 2 hard AI's. I'm thinking this freezing/lagging out has to do with the AI's producing so many ships at once, could this be? I really want to have a smooth gaming experience and hope someone can help me out. Thanks A TON!

Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate x64

DualCore Intel Core 2 Duo E8500, 3166 MHz

4096 MB (DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM)

I have 20gigs free on my hd and all drivers are up to date

I've been searching the forums and google but still haven't come up with anything. Only thing i'm finding is people having issues with the game freezing completely. My game on the other hand freezes for 5 seconds, continues as normal for a good 15-20 seconds and freezes again for 5 seconds. This goes on for the entire game. Only started to get the problem a little bit later in the game when i was on the verge to completely maxing out all my upgrades.
