UI Improvements

What I'd like to see improved in the UI

Hey All,

I spent some time in Gimp tonight to throw together what I'd like to see implemented into the UI for demigod. I just grabbed some images off the site and tweaked some of the other stuff to make it work so please forgive some of the rough edges.

I think that there are too few areas that display the data that is needed to make informed decisions about your actions. I commented most of the sections on what I'd like to see improved.

The citadel area would be originally an icon (similar to the quick TP icons) before clicking on it to expand to the detail list that I show below.

The player area would allow you to hover to see the players stats in a hover box (similar to your minimized inventory sheet)

Also the mini-map would also be interactable in that you could quick TP to flags using the icons there as well.

I actually kinda like Demigods minimalistic UI as is, although some more control over minions, item screens that are always viewable, and maybe a DG news feed would be neat.

You should probably do a screenshot without the descriptive text as well, because it makes it look more cluttered than it is.

 

Overall it is okay, but

- The team list should be smaller, smaller icons and health/mana bar with effects shown underneath (pretty much what you see in MMOG's)

- The citadel upgrades should be minimizable so u can toggle it on / off

 

So the overall idea's are okay, but it needs a bit of work.

Yeah I agree, like a little sidebar that shows a protrait of your teammates with health and mana bars or something similar. It would definitely help the teamwork aspect of the game, as well as making the players feel more connected to eachother in a way. I also think that when you click your own DGs portrait it should auto select him for casting spells on himself rather than just zooming to his location.

Team status bars are definitely needed.  Being able to remotely view citadel upgrades and shop contents is also needed, though the above shot for that is a little too in-your-face.  I certainly agree with the spirit of what you're proposing.

I too want team status (with 'jump to' feature on (right)click) and the War Rank progress. I don't see the point of displaying the Citadel upgrades all the time, but it would be useful to be able to check on that without having to be near the Citadel (buying should still be restricted to being there).

OMG we defaintely need some of this stuff. Not so much the tree info that you had on the right and side but at a min it would be nice to have a icon and health bar for our team mates. I don't know how many times I've healed or shielded myself as Sedna / QoT because I was too close to the target I was trying to cast on. Indicators in general for what you are casting on are lacking. Also it would be good to know if you are general how many minions you have and possibly icons for them also. maybe I want to shield / heal a minion for some reason but I can't even find them in mess of other models.

 

I think it would also be good if you could say "click on the minimap" and it takes you to that view point. Or you could right click no the mini map and your demigod / minions would move there.

 

Edit:

hell, just an icon for yourself up at the top for casting on yourself would be helpful. Did you know if you cick "heal" and try to cast it on the portrate of you at the bottom of the screen nothing happens. Why?

I agree that the screen is pretty rough, but it goes with what I'm looking for in my UI. More information onscreen about my team.

From a newbie aspect making the UI less intrusive is good, but from a more advanced player I want to be able to see as much information without having to go back to the citadel to look at it.

I think everyone agrees though that we should have a team member icon area so that we can see our teammate's health, mana, and status. With a team-based game this is important to coordinate correctly and it is hard to do if you can't see how much health/mana a person has.

The citadel info area was supposed to be a collapsable area that you could click on the title bar to expand or collapse it into a quick teleport icon.

I think the biggest issue is that you are unable to quickly tp back to the base you have to scroll all the way back to select these buildings. This interface would not let you purchase upgrades/items, but it would allow you to look at the tree and items ahead of time so you can better plan your trips back to the citadel area.

At the very least I'd like to see these as interface "options" so that you can turn it on or off if desired.
