You're Banned!: The Forum Game
Okay, here's what you do for this game: You have to "ban" the person who posted above you for an outrageous, silly, or funny reason. Got it?
Stardock will be closed for the week starting on Monday, June 29th and we will be returning on Monday, July 6th. We will be monitoring support tickets and forums during this time but expect delays in responses during this time.
Okay, here's what you do for this game: You have to "ban" the person who posted above you for an outrageous, silly, or funny reason. Got it?
ban you ban you ban you all to heck.
You mean satellites and space bus? Nothing to do with war ![]()
Nuclear power: How is that a GOOD thing?? ![]()
Sonar & Radar and so on: What makes you think that we would not have invented these things, without war?
In WWI and WWII, the use of miltary aircraft was widely spread. However, the Wright brothers invented the airplane not as a weapon to be used in war, but out of their vision "man can fly".
Inventions are created by brilliant men, who almost always dont have war in their minds. To claim that war helps us make new things, is kind of ridiculus.
Impatient? Didnt catch that sorry ![]()
Well, sorry for being offensive, but I can only take so much.

OK I heard enough BULLSHIT about WAR as it is. I am already pissed off about something personal, and now I am GOING to take it out on YOU, Whiskey:
1. War only profits the few people that really start it, and that's the government along with some big corporations or banks.
2. By profit, I mean resources, at the cost of many human lives. Basically, millions of people, so the elite at the top can be even richer.
3. There are NO technological gains from war. The new weapons and crap like that, that are invented during times of war, are only to cause more wars and take away more human lives.
4. There is no morality in war. Everyone that participates in it is a killer, and I don't care if some people claim "I only do it to save my fellow countrymen". BULLSHIT you are part of this mass killing by supporting the war.
5. If you think that when people vote for wars, and that they decide if they happen or not, you are BADLY mistaken.
6. ATTENTION: To Xer07 and Snipe: I read that you want to enlist in the army. Let me ask you 1 question: What the HELL, did your country ever do for you, that you are willing to serve and DIE for it? What did your corrupt government ever do for you? Do you think war is like in video games? Is it really fun like you say? I will not even comment this, and my questions are rhetorical.
7. Whiskey, I would like you to do me a favor: Please be honest with me, and admit (finally), that you absolutely LOVE war, that you love this whole fucking system that has existed for Centuries now, that you would NEVER EVER want a resource based or any other peaceful system or culture to ever exist in the world, that you want this thing to keep going, until we are all finally annihilated from the universe. Come on, be honest, it wont hurt at all.
8. Flame me all you want, I deserve it anyway.
9. If everyone was thinking the same way you do, OH MY, I don't even want to think about it. The world would be over tomorrow.
10. If your country is selling you stories via the MME, that they are somehow, doing all this for the so-called "National Security", that there are "terrorists" that threaten this great nation, when in fact the US government are the real terrorists (I'm sorry, that's the truth), and you believe them, then I don't know wtf else to say.
Ok, rant over, I feel calmer now.
(hey, at least I took it out of my system.)
Banned for arguably being harder-line than I am.
Banned because I have my moments. And no, I dont mean that in a good way.
![]()
Wow... Whatever was bugging you must have been pretty bad... Dunno why I needed to get dragged into this...
Well then, let's get started.
By my country, you mean my government. Well, let's see... No matter how much we complain, the presence of government stops the country collapsing socially, if not economically. Also, I have a right to feel patriotic about Britain, because I'm a limey and proud. My family lives in Britain, my friends live in Britain, and I'm British. Despite what you may think, Terrorists work worldwide, so fighting them is in fact of slight importance to many. There have been terrorist attacks on not only America but Britain as well. The Twin Towers incident appeared not to be in retaliation to anything inflicted on those who carried it out, so the West can't feasibly be blamed for it. Securing peace in areas where terrorists operate will stop these kinds of attacks, as the majority of the people in these countries don't like them either.
I want to join the army because I hope that it will mean that I can start to make a difference in some way. A way that sitting in an office probably won't. No, I don't think it's like a videogame. I am in fact in a Cadet Force, which teaches you what skills you need, and a bit about what the army is like. I never said that the army would be fun. I can't make a judgement until I've joined, really, but that's in a few years yet.
Good. Now that any misunderstandings are out of the way, I believe we can go back to banning each other.
To kick it all off again, I'm banning myself for excessive ranting.
Banned because I for one did not know you were British. I am going to give Morpheas the benefit of the doubt and assume (s)he didn't know either. I haven't heard much about the British military except that they got out of Iraq fairly early, so I'm willing to give them a pass.
Xer07 actually said that, but anyway.
My rant lasted 1 post (fortunately), so yeah, we can go back to normal.
Banned for quoting my post, without the quote to specify the #reply quoted. Wait....I did that too ![]()
I will address your points with one or more counterpoints of my own.
1. Point being?
2. War is usually started not for profit, but for 2 things- to enforce your will on someone else, or for resources. The 1st still applies even if your goal is to ensure that someone else's will isn't enforced on you, because your will is being enforced on them by preventing them from doing that to you.
3. Really? Armor plating is good for more than stopping bullets you know. They armor the turbines of helicopters. Materials science that makes breakthroughs in armor technology could easily be applied to creating superstructures.
4a. Do you think Hitler would have stopped with the conquest of Europe? What if your country comes under attack by a foreign nation? What are you going to do? Flee at the first sign of conflict, or enlist? I know that despite my low hopes for the American nation, I'd enlist (if I was of necessary age).
4b. This is incorrect. Not everyone who participates in warfare is a killer; only the person who actually takes the life of another human being is a killer. And believe it or not, without people who stand by ready to cause death and destruction for their countries, there would be a few really big superpowers who are all very unfriendly to each other, instead of this balkanized world where we at least have a mass market.
5. No. I don't think that, but the fact remains that there are cases when a war is publicly supported.
6. No, I don't think war is like in video games, because video games more often than not depict a small group of run-of-the-mill troops changing the course of a war. That doesn't happen unless 2 guys happen to find Bin Laden hiding in the ground, without any protection.
7a. What system?
7b. It's not that I love war, it's that I recognize it's necessity to the human race. Face it morph, a peaceful culture or system will not be able to survive in the face of all the bad things that exist in the universe. If you have 2 human civilizations, 1 super peaceful, and 1 that has a fair portion devoted to warfare, and both want the same resources, then the super peaceful one is going to lose. Warfare is tool, nothing more, nothing less.
The truth of the matter is that mankind's warlike tendencies have made it the supreme species of this planet. You call war a mass killing. In that you are right. War is killing at its most basic level. And that's because when diplomacy stops working, weapons start working. Regardless of what you say morph, the fact of the matter remains that without warfare, we wouldn't have acheived everything that we did. The first spacecraft were simply nuclear missile bodies with no warheads and a crew capsule. No joke.
8. Why would I do that?
9. I'm not a warmonger, I'm a realist, and I recognize the fact that war serves an important tool in the arsenal of mankind. Without warfare, then Greece might not even exist, as it might have become part of the Persian Empire, and then part of some other empire, and so on and so forth.
10. MME? WTH is that? Quite frankly the only news I read is the Discovery Channel News. And that's because I like science. I form my opinions based on what I see, I despise American news channels because they seem to only report utter drivel that is basically sensationalistic puke.
Banned for thinking I'd flame you.
Banned for taking it out on me, even though from your POV I probably deserved it.

Scoutdog, please stop that "(s)he" thing, we are all guys here, except for skidiantasa ![]()
Banned because I wasnt referring to the US specifically, but any country in the world.
EDIT:
Whiskey, even if someone proves to you, that you are wrong, you would still not admit it, and continue to argue with them.
But just for the heck of it, I am gonna amuse you:
1. Insensitive comment FTW
2. Resources is a type of profit, duh
The first reason you mentioned is kinda the obvious of the obviousness, (enforcing your will), and also the less important one.
3. Ok, now go ahead and tell me that EVERYTHING was created from war. /sarcasm Oh thank you nice people for making war and inventing all these nice things for us!
/sarcasm over.
Seriously now, come on, dont you have anything better than that? You disappoint me. A. Armor plating is NOT an invention. B. Its a something very specific, that is simply a FEATURE of aircraft's engines, not even something being used on its own. C. Again for the 563664363th time, only with war we could ever think of such a thing? LOL
4a. I would rather try to save my ass, and avoiding having to kill a human being at the same time (because if someone threatened my life, I would have no other choice probably.). Oh what now, am I considered a coward? Hahahaha
I couldnt care less.
4b. Yes, everyone is a killer, even those who do not kill directly, and give the command for it. The general that pushes a button, and launches rockets to the "enemy" killing hundreds, is not a killer? LOL. I didn't expect someone like you to understand.
5. The masses are manipulated and deceived into thinking war is necessary, when is fact it is NOT. So, yeah, the lies are supported most times.
6. That video games comment was about Xer07, who made it look like he sees it that way. I don't mean literally, but he doesn't realise how bad things are, in a war. Oh yeah, I forgot: Bin Landen is the most EVIL person in the planet. LOLOLOLOLOL ![]()
7a. "What system?"
Really? Do I need to spell it out?
7b. 2 human civilizations....blah blah blah. Again you are creating stories. Why 2 civilizations? This 2 human civilizations thing you described could never exist, and I never claimed that it would. A peaceful culture or system could exist perfectly. The only reason you cant understand it, is because that's all you have learned. Since you haven't seen such a thing, its difficult for you to understand it, I presume. Yes, you seem to love war. In fact, it seems that it has been planted into your every thought, maybe it was the conditions or the place where you grew up, maybe something else, I don't know. FYI Xer07 has a step father in the military, it explains a lot.
Mankind doesn't have warlike tendencies, simple as that. Nobody is born thinking, how I am gonna kill the person next to me, or how am I gonna start a war. The whole war idea seems normal to you, because that's the world where you grew up to. That's the world where we all grew up to. Without war, and with a peaceful society, we would have achieved A LOT more than what we have. OMG, when I think of the possibilities that we would have, if we had a peaceful resource-based system. WOW
I dare to say, that we may even have created huge space stations orbiting the earth. (Just imagine Halo, but smaller. Its just a speculation though)
8. Because I am being rude and offensive, or so to speak.
9. Whether Greece existed or not, it doesn't matter. Greece, Persia, Turkey, Germany, USA, UK, WHATEVER. Its all the same anyway. Again, I think you are a warmonger, but its just a word, and definitions may vary a little from a person to another. To someone's opinion, warmonger could be someone with your beliefs and character, and to another person, warmonger might be only someone that is actually part of a war, and enjoying being in it.
10. Yeah that's good, because the news channels in USA and Greece have 1 thing in common. You know what that is? Yes, they are both full of Bullshit.
Banned for asking for more by answering my rude rant-post.
Banned because I hate to repeat myself but: "Some people are so closely connected to the system, that they will FIGHT to protect it."
p.s. Whiskey, we can keep arguing (or debating if you prefer the term) like this forever, so what is the point?
Banned because this debate has no moderator and no time keeper. I say resolve this once and for all in the Chatroom. We will appoint sides judges and rules. If both parties comply we will decide on a time based on the forums clock.
You may return to your regular scheduled Banning.
Banned because unregulated debate can quickly turn to useless and pointless arguments
1. You haven't proved me wrong yet.
2. I never said everything was created for warfare. I was simply pointing out that the mechanisms of war can have applications in the civil arena.
3. Yes, it is quite possibly we'd only think of armoring a helicopter's turbines to prevent damage to the passenger cabin due to warfare. You'd be surprised at the stupidity of people. As Einstein said, "2 things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity. And I'm not sure about the universe."
4. No, I don't consider you to be a coward. I simply asked what you would do. However, I do think that you aren't particularly patriotic for your country.
5. Yes, the general that pushes the button is a killer, because through his direct or indirect actions men have lost there lives. What I'm note sure you understand is that the chaplains, medics, and non-combatant personel who work with armies in the field aren't killers when in war. Battlefield Medics are probably some of the courageous people I can think of.
6. I don't think Bin Laden is the most evil person on the planet. That award is currently tied between Hitler and Stalin. But I do believe Bin Laden has at least some modicum of evil in him.
7. Yes, because I really have no idea what system you're criticizing.
8. My dad is a US Marine. He has been to Iraq 2 times. He is retiring this year to become a pastor. Part of my fascination with warfare is the weaponry; Da Vinci abhorred warfare but designed several weapons. My fascination with weaponry is the elegance of function and design that some weapons have.
9. Regardless of the rudeness or offensiveness of your posts I'm not going to flame you. I'm genuinely interested in learning about your opinion.
10. Interesting. I didn't realize you felt that way about nations. But in all actuality, I do recognize the usefulness of "non-violent" methods; the problem is the advocacy of non-violence above all else, even when it isn't working. There comes a point when the only way to get your point across is through bloodshed.
11. Then we both agree on the fact that modern news is becoming more degenerate in nature. I assume, anyway.
12. I find something ironic about you; you play games which have the premise built entirely on warfare, but you despise war.
13. Make no mistake, I find the loss of human life tragic. The loss of what could have been. But what has been done has been done and nothing will change that. Sometimes it is necessary for many people to lose their lives so that many more will not. It isn't a happy thing. It's tragic, it's sad, and it shouldn't have to happen. But unfortunately humanity is just not going to learn. The closest thing to peace we'll ever have would probably be something like the situation of 1949-1990. Cold War.
Banned because it's easier for me to quote&reply in this thread than in the Chatroom since the replies are in this thread.
Banned because I'm still trying to figure out why you believe what you do. That's the point.
Banned because it would seem you think I place no value on human life. I do.
Banned because we probably should move this to the Chatroom.
Banned for repeatedly using Matrix references. Seriously, it's getting old and annoying.
Banned because quite frankly, I'd rather found a civilization bent on the pursuit of knowledge than one bent on total domination through warfare. I simply recognize the fact that there's going to be someone that will come around eventually and want whatever that society I founded has; therefore that society requries the ability to defend itself.
Banned because I think that the end of warfare would be a wonderful thing. It would give me more time for the pursuit of knowledge.
Banned because warfare (or at least conflict) is one of the most interesting topics to write about in fiction. I think you'll have to agree with that on some level or another.
"In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war..." | "The Universe is Yours" | "Let the Galaxy Burn"
Yay, new page. Pre-banned prepared.
@Morph
1. Yeah, go ask Hitler and that Serbian Nationalist assassin how the world wars turned out for them.
2. The most recent wars over resources have all been in the Middle East, spearheaded by the US to establish military bases on oil fields. Total deaths since 1991 have yet to reach ten thousand, while any other war has casualties in the millions that US participated in. The rich always get richer, regardless of war.
3. How about helicopters? They didn't even have weapons till the 70's and served for medical evac since WW2. The cold war, which was effectively a war without mass death, brought incredible advancement in technology, from simple experiments in space to the computer you are using now. Why does a computer have anything over a megabyte of RAM by now? From military use in observation, artillery trajectory calculations and ballistic missile tracking. Why would anyone invent sonar and radar if you had no planes or U-boats attacking your shipments? To map the undersea floor and find Atlantis, my ass! Just because a government contracted a corporation to develop something doesn't mean war had nothing to do with its creation.
4. Don't be a hypocrit. When was the last time Greece was in a war? Long before you were born. You have not experienced war nor affiliated patriotism and propoganda because the US used your nation as a buffer against the USSR and put nukes on your territory for forty years while leaving your people to their lives. So let me use a closer to home example for you. Do you think Athens was peaceful before the Persian army was at their door? Most certainly, but were they going to sacrifice their ideals and government so some empire could come in and tell them what to do? Would you stand by and allow Fascism to engulf your country while you stand by minding your own business while your freedoms erode away? Granted, they would anyway, but at a much slower rate.
Banned for having a pre-ban prepared.
Banned for misspelling "hypocrite".
Banned because I hadn't thought of helos.
Banned because I brought up the Persian War.
Banned because I wish to ban you.
Banned because the rich don't always get richer. Sometimes they hit rock bottom poor.
