So does 'multiplayer' these days mostly mean 'multiplayer only?' I might have toyed around with that if it had a singleplayer mode.

It would seem so. Though that's not the worse thing about this...where is the game info. Seven lines of game outliines does not readily explain the game....

No SP, shody UI...and i think you could do with a larger interface as well...that would look small on 800X600 let alone by today's standards.

Soory, i'll have to dismiss it just on these alone...no point playing a game when the UI presented on the site is as terrible as that.

Fine, let's consider it... Ops, there is no manual. How do you plan to play a strategy game if you don't know what to do? That's not a strategy game at all, it's another online bullshit pretending to be a strategy.
