Game Vortex Previews Demigod

Gamevortex.com has published a preview of Demigod, and gives a quick look at some of the elements of Demigod and how it’s played.

“People play real-time strategy games for different reasons. Some people enjoy these games for their complexity, while others tinker around with mods in an effort to expand the limits of the game. Last, but not least, there are many RTS gamers who forgo base-building and mineral-collecting in favor of a good old-fashioned unit (read: Zerg) rush. Demigod offers a fresh, new take on the real-time strategy genre by eliminating the absolute necessity for base-building and focusing on hardcore action-RPG elements.”

Huh?  You still base build and  collect minerals in a rush..

You need a spawning pool.

In some games (Command & Conquer Generals comes to mind) it's possible to sell your starter buildings and just rush the enemy base with the troops that gives you (since sold buildings spawns a few infantry units), winning the game within a few minutes. This is a rather unpopular tactic amongst some people though.

It didn't say that in the interview, but there used to be a ton of whining about it on various message boards. I never played the game online since Warcraft III put me off online multiplayer so admittedly I can't say whether this was the exact procedure used, but the infamous "zerg" rushing of winning the game in the span of a few minutes was widespread judging by the amount of vitriol it spawned on the boards.

I know there was one game where selling your starter buildings to rush was involved, but I can't say 100% for sure it was Generals.
