[IDEA] Redo the Flag capping mechanic

There I said it.. Open minds appreciated!

Flag capping.

Flag capping could be made more meaningful with added depth of strategy if the capping mechanic was changed.

How about,.. To cap a flagstand you have to carry a flag there.

1) Flags can be bought in base as an item.

2) While the DG is holding this flag his movement is slightly reduced and he can't use any skills or consumables or attack.

3) You can drop and pickup a flag as this allows you access to your skills again however if an enemy picks up the flag you dropped its either destroyed or transferred to the enemy inventory. Also if you drop a flag your team mate can pick it up. Say if you die holding a flag your team mate can grab it from the spot you died.

This makes flag stands a much larger investment. You have to carry it there slowed and vulnerable your taking time away from leveling and other tasks.

I think this would be an interesting update because flags are what make the match. The gold stand on Prison and the portal maps on Levi or Zikurat.

Also what amazing awkard situation would arise if two DG get to a flag stand at the same time?

The person who caps it last gets it.

So arriving there at the same time neither can use skills or attack and so you have this amazing showdown.

  • Do I drop my flag and attack?
  • What if he picks it up while I'm attacking?
  • Should I call my teammate over for assistance?
  • What if my team mate just walked me to the stand as an escort in the first place?

Please share your thoughts.

Edit:

Some additional ideas I'm having in real time. Like A favor item that increases your speed while capping instead of the natural speed penalty of the flag so when forming a team you may decide to have a dedicated flag capper.

Strategy: instead of buying and carrying flags wait for your opponent to do all the work and snare and kill him before he reaches flagstand then take his flag and cap ;)

Interesting idea/vision.

However I am not sure that I would be in favor of giving even more focus to flagsin the overall strategy.
They already play a center stage and I actuallylikeitthat one can just cap the flag right after another just did it.
It also means that you havetopay for flags which we cannot really afford unless the flag costlike 50. but thenitmeanyou carry one less item so again too much focus on runningaround with a flag imo.

Then being slower when you carry a flag,no, no thanks,you already get rapped pretty easilyatnormalspeed so if you were to be even slower.. i cant imagine the carnage.

Now if you want to make use of the 'special flag', then maybe you make one that is available only from the special item shop that would then need to be put on the ennemy's stronghold or something. every second that flag is on the ennemy's stronghold would actually decrease the amount of money the ennemy is making or just stop the ennemy from collecting any money at all.

I agree with Kira.  Flags are already super important.  We don't need them to be more complex.  In my opinion, this is not where I want added complexity.

I'm having fun so far, but this quick cap back and forth isn't very engaging its as simple as the faster more damage dealing, cap lock using competent team gets to hold onto flags.

McMJon's guide to Pro Flag Capping.

- To cap faster teleport to closest friendly structure and then proceed to flag

- Out damage and chase away enemy DG.

- Losing out to more damage dealing defenders that cap over you? Bring a cap locker.

- See someone capping a key important flag? Teleport there and chase them away.

- Raise towers and lay down mines to defend flags.

I personally think mcm that would make capp locking alot worse because capping an enemy flag (a flag in their base is highly important) in mid to late game weakening them alot when your rdy to strike. The way u suggest will deny people this choice of gameplay
