Annoyance with WC home page

I have wincustomeize as my homepage, but I may change that.

Recently when I open my browser (FF3), the url https://www.wincustomize.com/ gets redirected to https://www.wincustomize.com/index_odntad.asp. This is a page which has a huge ad for ObjectDesktop 2009. I have to then scroll down to a link to continue to the WC homepage.

To make matters worse, at the top of the ad is what looks like the WC header with the nav bar (Home, Gallery, Articles, Forums, etc.) These aren't clickable links, so why are they there? It didn't take me long to find out how to continue to Wincustomize, but how about the new guy who stumbles apon this site through a Google search. It may be confusing.

Is this going to be a permanent "feature" or is it a temporary thing to promote the launch of OD 2009?

Now, many of you might never see this page because your browser keeps you logged in. But I have Firefox set up to delete cookies and clear cache when I close the browser.

I find the ad really annoying and I hope the WC admins. reconsider this approach.

Think that might be who it is directed at?

I use my profile as my home page; I’ve had slow loading times in some of the other areas but never on that page. On a lighter note I haven’t had any slow loading times in a while but I upped my ram so that may have something to do with it.

That sentence you quoted was connected to this statement

I'm not stupid. I realize that Stardock wants to promote their products.

2of3, I had that same issue, but only once. I wonder if someone was being kind to me.

Just so you know, I am using FF3, and I also have it set to clear when the browser is shut down.

This may not help, but I am feeling for you, having been there, however  brief.

can't be permanent.....won't work in 2010 ;p

Well it does it every time for me.

I guess I'll have to change my homepage to the gallery. It's a real shame, I always started my day with checking out the WC homepage to see what was new :'(

I’d like to say that I wasn’t implying that using a different page would solve the problem. If you want the home page I can see how that would be a bother.

Thanks DP :) Don't worry, I didn't misunderstand you.

It's temporary to promote the release of Object Desktop 2009.

I only saw it once....I blame a crappy screensaver install/test that gave me a BSOD.....

I never log out....dont get it in FF....but frequently in IE6...

Well I can live with it since it's temporary. ^_^

Wasn't implying you were stupid Tim, just pointing out its being used to promote a product, many sites do it.

additionally you can use Ccleaner to easily stop the WC coookie from not being dleted upon cleaning.

I see it whenever I am not logged in . I have WC as my homepage as well.

Can't you set FF to allow specific cookies, etc. You could clean everything else out but WC. I'm not sure if it works cause it doesn't bother me. It DID confuse the hell outta me the first time I saw it. lol.

IE7 and only can up once for me.

Didn't bother me....guess my usual homepage has more blue in it, though:

Yes Tim, it redirects me also.  What a pain as I have to back door the system to get to the forum or libraries.X(

I never log out and I'm getting it every time too....... Most annoying.

It's only temporary and secondly it does store a cookie so it doesn't keep coming up.

After the Thanksgiving break it's going away.
