Request : Upgrading Starships

Any chance of adding in a feature to upgrade weaker ships such as starfighters and corvettes to a higher class. Maybe not necessarily on a one to one / ship to ship basis either. Its just becomes fairly useless to have star fighters around or even BattleAxes when your enemy has Dreads or better and is kicking the crap out of your civ. The only option is to build up new ships (which takes time) and you might as well disband the useless weak shipswhich also can be tedious. Any thoughts?

The current way seems rather realistic to me. After all, while we can -- to some degree -- refit equipment, it's not like you can take any number of Sherman M4A3s and turn them into modern battle tanks, any more than a patrol boat could be "upgraded" into an Aegis-equipped cruiser.

I agree that it is more realistic to not allow for the upgrades. The magical upgrade from Sherman tank to M1 ala Civ III is quite unrealistic. However, what is realistic is the fact that you can scrap those obsolete war machines for some return on the original investment. Might take some of the economic (and pyscological for that matter) edge of having to simply disband my fleet of BattleAxes I use to initially defend my worlds and to beef up my Military stats to avoid being bullied into bankruptcy.
