Were You Ever Scared For Me?

Were you ever scared for me?
Were you ever concerned for my safety, did you think
the worst?
Did you ever see the downward decline
Had you a clue I was falling?
Were you confident in my ability to pull my self out of my filth
Were you confident I would shower it off me
Like a rape victim showers, like I did that one time
Did you want to reach your hand to me
without knowing how, so instead you
Turned your back on me or didn't see it for
what it was
What it was
Is shit, god damn shit.
And I had to pull myself out alone
I had to carry that god damn cross
All by my self, the weight of the entire
Universe, Universe, on my shoulders
and you did not even question you did not even

blink.

Why?
Am I really so unimportant as I feel now,
or were you really stupidly confident in my abilities
Abilities are nothing when it the task is already impossible.

It seems, though, that I was cursed before my birth.
I was cursed before my father was born, even.
Were you?
Do you feel that weight on your shoulders?
Or are you happy enough, lucky enough, blind enough,
to be a heterosexual, white, blonde, thin, short, tall,
fat, pretty, ugly, white supreme being?
Perhaps in another time it would have been different,
100 years ago, or more, when we would all have been poor
And my kind would have been misinterpreted
And pushed away from society,
But your kind had to bear the brunt
For being a different kind of white.

But that's not the point, that's not
why, why
I crawled out of hell without a hand
a word of encouragement
a millisecond of concern
While you smiled
you smiled, you smiled and turned your back.
It cannot be because of race.

But did you never think twice
Never question, wonder, excuses
Something was up didn't you think?
Did you never put the puzzle together?
The pieces were not very small...

So, then, are you that oblivious
To the words that I'm speaking
And the fears you had when you heard of these
"Things" happening before
But now that you were seeing it it wasn't so bad.

Could you really be so blind as not to see!
It was clearly written across the sky.
What they show on TVs is so stupid and untrue--
It is not always dope.
The kids are on amphetamines
and morphines and codeines
and methadone
and cocaine white gold dreams
and crank and fluff and stuff
hashish and opium
lsd and other things
It's not always "dope".
There you go, ma'am.

And don't get me started on your alcohol.
That's so much worse for your body than ANY other drug
I'd rather die for a cocaine high than
To lose my life to beer
Bud Light? Is it really that good?

But cocaine dreams and tweaker schemes
are prevalent with the youth
We can't get out keep slipping in
This world of disbelief

But what if...
Your hand could have
pulled
me
out.

You could have saved me from a crash
A bang
An explosion that's sure and sure to come by
an embarrassment unlike no other

And you smiled, you smiled
and turned
your
back.
