Good and Evil

With Palms together,
Good Morning Everyone,

If there is no stick
against which to measure,
What is distance?

Distance becomes meaningless. Distance is only relative.  All things are thus. Even in the non-physical realm. We might say God is a such a stick.  Or we might say Buddha-Nature is such a a stick.  But these are less sticks than pervasiveness itself. God is everywhere in everything; Buddha-Nature is your original face, universal, infinite. We cannot say that God is the Absolute Good without diminishing God.

Yet here we are, living in a world trying to be good. Using as our measure Torah, or Dharma, or Jesus, or some other measure.  The thing is, each of these is everything, all inclusive, and therefore, inclusive of the dark side. We cannot have light without dark, for yin there must be yang. The Dao is One.

So our truth is that life itself is our reality and when we set aside our own ego-, ethno-, religio-, culture- centric measures, we will find good and bad are playmates. Our own inventions.  Pain and joy are two sides of the very same human coin. To engender one, engenders another.

A disciplined spiritual path is a path of complete acceptance, openness, and vulnerability to the universe as it is.

Avoid evil; do good; bring about good for all beings. Yes, and do these without forgetting that other side of the coin.
Be well

I like the yin and yang view.  Opposing forces yet two parts of a whole.  The dual nature is really captivating for me.  I'm not exactly sure why, but the world seems to make more sense when viewed in that light (or darkness ;) ).

Eh, Zoo,  but the sum is larger than the parts, don't ya think?

That seems to be the case.  It's important to acknowledge the whole, and also to know what constitutes it...and in the case of good and evil, which part is the more dominant.
