There will come a day...

... when the oil rich nations look back at their stupidity

In the future, hopefully not too distant future, there's going to come a day when the oil rich nations of the world look back at their stupidity, much as I hope we (the U.S.A.) look back at our own stupidity in how we handle our energy needs.  [more]Those nations are going to see how they killed off their own golden goose, and we are going to see how stupid we were for ever letting black gold become such a precious commodity.

As the price of oil continues to skyrocket, the news is starting to pick up on the points I would make here (in this blog article).  For example, see this news: Oil running out as prime energy source: world poll

Eventually the world will find a new energy source and then the question will be who is able to make money from that energy source.  Will it be the Exxon-Mobil's and British Petroleum's of the world, or will it be the Archer Daniels Midlands of the world instead?  Perhaps 3M, or Dow chemical instead.  Maybe General Electric.  Regardless, someone will find the new source, or sources of energy generation that the world needs now and once it happens the oil rich nations that we currently kowtow to will wonder where all of their income suddenly ran off to.

I hope that the solution that is found involves something other than sand or any other resource that would eventually turn into financial gain for the nations and states that currently supply oil for the world's needs.  I'd want to see something used that turned the market on it's rear a bit and no longer could serve to help feed the pockets of terrorists and hate filled anti-western jihadists.

I honestly think that a big part of the answer will be reduced consumption.

I think the best idiot award goes to Amedinjad. He said the price was too low. It is, if we are to ween ourselves from it. WHile the cost today is painful, it is helping to spur research into alternates, and that is good for the long term.

They will kill the golden goose - through greed. The only question is when.

I don't want gas prices to lower anymore..I want them to go higher and higher.

Yeah it will suck for our economy.....but what else will get complacent Americans back into survival mode?  A survival mindset breeds invention.

Inefficiency also can breed efficiency, higher costs makes high-cost alternatives into low-cost alternatives, etc.
