Captain Jack Sparrow Captain Jack Sparrow

G.R.O.S.S. communication thread.

G.R.O.S.S. communication thread.

Cringe in fear do gooders. The G.R.O.S.S. (Get Rid Of Slimy alienS) empire is now formed. In less than an hour we have jumped 95 other Pacifist Doo Gooder victim empires and lept into 40th out of 135 ranked.

We are an evil empire bent on controlling everything and showing all the other empires out there who's boss. US. Are you listening Euro-"Oh lets let everyone be a senator and give em a vote doo gooder democracy alliance?" We come for you.

For a limited time, (untill I decide otherwise) 5 Pure Evil games, (or just impressing me with your game evilness) submitted will get you a Senatorship. Later, being the evil empire pyramid scheme we are, it will take 10. Of course, being the evil empire we are, that gives you no benefits, no pay, but all the alien carnage you crave most.

Now we do realize that sometimes, you just have to fake being good. You sometimes just have to infiltrate that pacifist party. We understand. But we aren't a kinder gentler empire and don't let their pacifism go to your head. And just sometimes, you gotta let the Aliens live (where else would you find slaves for the heavy metal lava mines?)

In the future, we shall update each other in the empire via this thread, brag of our conquests, drink blood wine, and generally just poke fun (creatively and humorously) at those players whom we find to be too goody goodyish.

Our mottos.

G.R.O.S.S. Where being good is merely a temporary strategy.

Just win baby.

Here's your ration of skin you do gooder wimp Drengin slime. Now get back to work

EBZeroMatrix you have been made a senator.

I repeat. Cringe in fear, we come for you.

You too, Gerakken? If only I could convince my boss - the one that provides a paycheck, as opposed to Boss-Pontius who only provides free beer (not that I'm whining, mind you) - that the galaxy needs saving more than he needs me this week. Hehe...

Give him the game and tell him G.R.O.S.S. wants him. No wait don't. He'll have you doing his work too.

Yes, back to GalCiv. Currently I'm torn between midsize games and larger ones. The midsize ones are simply fun. I totally empathize with EBZ now. And yet I always want more after I submit it. The larger ones have the added fun of making me competitive in the Metaverse, but I get bogged down. My puter doesn't perform well and I like to micromanage. I use Mr. Ford and autopilot, but I can't help getting' in there and tweaking things just a tad. What to do... what to do...
End of quote

HEHE. I have to declare war on someone about midway through gigantic just to get their units off the board so the game will run faster.

Anyway it's off to bed for me. I should have a submission soon. Then it's 20 games in and commodore rank. hehe. Carry on everyone. Finest Crew in the metaverse.

Ok so I just had to hit that turn key once more, then once, more, then I had to play till I discovered that next tech. Then it was Oh but I'm just 5 turns from smashing the arceans. HEHE.

Kit, noticed your dazzling display of logic proving the hypocrisy of the Midwestern Cryfederation. Well done matey. LMAO. Consistency is the hobgoblin of little MWC minds. Good night everyone. Keep on Carrying on.

For average the only thing protecting old players with those early low scores is that only players with more than 10 submissions are included in the average score list.
End of quote

True, but the formula on the average board is still sum of scores divided by games played. My combined 17 game total is 33,870 points, with individual scores ranging from 34 to 8300. Divided by 17 yields an average of 1992. If a new version guy comes along and submits 17 5000 point games on v1.05 or higher, then he gets the full 5000 because of a lack of old baggage.
Meanwhile, on the overall score list, a score can not drag down any scores more than a month separated from it.
End of quote

While I have not verified the exact formula for grandfather scores for myself, I do agree that old scores on the overall list have been compensated for somehow.

Thanks Boss! But I almost blew it with a minor oversight. I was able to fix the goof with my "Whip of Obsessive Ex Post Facto!!!" :D I found it in one of the decrepit dungeons I was once locked in. As for the dicing and slicing, my trusty "Rapier of Comparative Socioeconomic Insinuations!!!" :SURPRISED: is a devastating weapon that is strictly reserved for special occasions.

It's been a long Tuesday. Time to jump in the sack.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I think I'm going to try a bigger map next, though this may mean it's a little while before I upload the next game. I'm getting tired of rush, rush, rush - and I want to see a little more of the game.

By the way, it was fun playing evil. I enjoyed telling the Drendin, 'Our life force does not run itself.'

I also play with cultural victory turned off on mid- to -small sized maps. It's no for any scoring purpose, but I dislike having to deal with a timer just when I'm invested all the time building the infrastructure for my war machine. If I'm going to build a fleet, I want to have the gratification of USING it - without being told that I have to compete with Starbucs for the priviledge of enslaving the rest of the galaxy. (Starbucs is the one with the buccaneer on the cups, not some silly mermaid)

Congrats, Six - 20 victories is an impressive number!

Happy Raiding,
Cypher

Cool Robert. In my game those Torians just won't roll over. stubborn, those slugs. Everyone else has rolled over, but I seem to be stalemated with the Torians. They will talk peace but only if I give them alot of stuff. Time to break out the attitude adjusting Overlords.

I find that invading a planet or three tends to make the alien open to suggestions about a peace treaty. Looks like it's time to get your cutlass a bit bloodier, boss.

I will. Just as soon as the Altarians and the and the Arceans are mopped up. Then, my sushi sword will fly.

Metaverse overall score seems to be calculated as follows:
Scores are grouped into blocks by their age/degradation.
Within each block, the sum of the scores is divided by the square root of number of games in that block.
The results of all the blocks are added together to give total overall score.

So, if my alter ego NiceMole submits the following games:
Date Score Degraded to Current Value
3/29 20 70% 14
4/4 36 70% 25.2
4/26 207 80% 165.6
6/30 8260 100% 8260

Block 70%: (14 + 25.2) / 2(sqrt) = 27.7
Block 80%: 165.6 / 1(sqrt) = 165.6
Block 100%: 8260 / 1(sqrt) = 8260
Total: 27.7 + 165.6 + 8260 = 8453.3

This total would be the one given on the player's page. The one shown on the list is often slightly higher, which I think may have something to do with the timing of the application of score degradation.

Lets play and leave plephart the troll and his little friend behind.
End of quote

Now if that ain't the pot calling the kettle black... :notsure:

So lets look here, at the definition of a troll:

troll (n) [Usenet]: Any newsgroup poster who posts deliberately inflammatory material in order to irritate other posters and, hopefully, trick them into making foolish spectacles of themselves. It is advised to avoid responding to an obvious troll at all costs, no matter how tempting a target they make themselves.

Well... That V guy fits the bill. Plephart, Kit, pontius, myself, Surther... In a way we fit that bill too. But I like to think of us, not as trolls, but rather, 'turd stirrers'. We trash talk for our empires. Sometimes we go too far sometimes not.

With that said, let us not get too serious around here. This is, after all, a single player game, albeit with a twist.

I'm done. Now if I can get the wife to let me play I'll be happy!

idle out

Slitherin, Good thing we aren't in port that often... HHEHE.

The Score's down a bit but it was a fun game nonetheless. I finally got it in. Gonna start a new one, then hit the sack early.

-Incoming Transmission-

This is Cos Palpatine, leader of the Republic. I have sent this transference to offer an armistice between our civilizations. This has been a long and bloody war, with no real benefit to either side. On a side note, the Republic has entered negotiations with the Fellowship of the Ring Empire, and I feel this would be an important step in unifing the theme Empires of the Universe.

(The Philosopher side of Gerakken has flown the coup! RUN!)

Conflict is eternal, EBZ. War or no. It all depends on who is willing to live under whose rules for how long. :)

Ceasefire? Who's shootin'? ;p LOL

Seriously though, what's this negotiatin' stuff? I thought the Star Wars thing was pretty cool. Jedis with wizards-n-such don't make much sense to me, but y'all boogie however ya like.

Oh eyez gits it now. Themes 'gainst places. Mmmm... I dunno. Eyez ain't sure if this makes much sense. Aussies and Kiwis are tryin' to git back in it. Hate ta smack 'em down, but maybe what theyz need iz a fight. Kinda imbalanced far as board talkin'. Again that southern hemisphere gonna git a lot of the attention. Not sure if MWC can help 'em with talkin' the talk. Besides, why we wanna split the Meta in two? :(

It's all for a bit of fun. It would also give those smaller empires that would never be able to compete for first something to shout about but still retain their distinct identities.

The empiring nowadays are mostly about the Top10. I'm sure the other empires would love to get into the action, which they can't really do unless they merge.

It's more of a suggestion at this point in time, there's no game if there are no participants.
