I Gave Him My Maiden Name

Yes,
the bright-eyed girl,
in the back of the class,
waving her hand?

Ignore her.

For her answer,
wrong or right,
won't help a patriarch,
scratch another mark,
in her his-story books,
so sleep tight.

The smoke screen erupts from her exhaustion pipes,
torn between being the ugly witch,
or the dumb bitch who can't even piss
without permission from her knight...

in shining dishonor,
one night,
lowered her draw bridge,
to advance his troops upon her.

Time to be a mother,
was never much different from when she was a daughter,

but she bore a son.

Gave him the name,
she could only claim temporarily.

Hoping in vane that he would care to be better for it,
in light of the knight,
who made no effort to be supportive.

So like the life she once led incomplete,
she returned to where she had bled in the streets,
with a half-life of unforseen consequence
the price paid for supposed arrogance.

To raise her hand,
in suggestion she had something worth saying,
now carrying in her arms a bright-eyed boy,
she calls by her maiden name.

Let me let you in on a little secret, yo. Yours is the only blog I ever visit consistantly any more. You seem to be the only one to be consistantly real. I love you for that.

Trinitie

p.s. That doesn't mean that the rest of you aren't real, that means we're all a lot alike.

Mack, NickyG, Mig,

It's so reassuring to get visits from my favorite JU poets.

I don't like poetry. So when I clicked on this I was surprised how quickly it sucked me in. I loved it. The best I could do was give my son my maiden as his second middle name. The poor kid.

Great job....
