Who You Were in 1994

(Trying to work out some spacing issues here but wanted to post it before I forgot - peace, Suspeckted)

To depreciate in value,
to self-medicate and wollow...it all away.

Rediscovering the first CDs we bought,
lyrics we memorized,
to make them our own.

This,
all at once,
was the first time,
and last,
we'd truly felt high.

Tune in,
and move on,
from track to track,
that only seem to hold value in their familiarity.

As soon as we're taken off the childhood lot,
we find fewer and fewer,
to marvel,
at the potential,
we now seem unlikely to meet,
all in accordance,
with the prophecies,
of intergenerational separations
these are parallel losses,
of identity.

Remember who you were in 1994?
surely there are plenty to remind you,
as if you've forgotten,
to page through those presestablished
policies and procedures,
you drafted in the 9th grade.

This was the first time,
and the last,
you had it all figured out.

Maybe...
what if...
when I was...

Begin an awful lot of sentences these days,
but end in question marks,
just as often as,
they do in laughter.

Maybe...if we remembered,
to remember more often,
we'd depreciate more slowly.

Meet me,
ten years back,
where I didn't care why it was funny.

As long as I was laughing...
I got it.

Never a question of blissful ignorance,
we lived on contempt for our own bitterness.

Though refusal to live,
to see anything side step the future,
to forget to remember how much you meant to 1994,
and how it meant,
so much to you.

Another good one. 1994 was the end of my Junior year and the start of my Senior year in high school. One of the best years of my life. Hard to believe it's been 10 years.....

This is truely awesome. You know, awesome is a word we need to bring back to it's original sense. We're gonna need it when Jesus comes back. If it's reduced to what it now means, as in, "Dude, those are some awesome fries" we'll no longer have a word to describe something that literally puts us in awe.

And again, this is awesome.

Great one Ted!
It was Korea, and it was the hottest summer in 60+ years with no A/C and hordes of North koreans hell bent on
developing Nukes less than 100 miles away. Whoo hot times! But the family was there with me so it was great anyhow.

Sorry for lack of response guys, apparently my alerts aren't working right now. I really appreciate the visits since it's been pretty d'ern lonely roun' these parts. I think I might be focused to much on the past right now, but when you're not making to much progress on your future it's sometimes nice to remember how easy it all used to be.

Saw your comment about living in the past and thought you might like this poem.

Do not determine your worth
By comparing yourself with others
It is because we are different
That each of us is special

Do not set your goals
By what other people deem important
Only you know
What is best for you

Do not take for granted
The things closest to your heart
Cling them as you would your life
For without them, life is meaningless

Do not let your life
Slip through your fingers
By living in the past
Nor for the future
By living your life one day at a time
You've lived all the days of your life

Do not give up
When you still have something to give
Nothing is realli over
Until the moment you stop trying
It is a fragile thread
that binds us to each other

Do not afraid to encounter risks
It is by taking chances
That we learn how to be brave

Do not shut love out of your life
By saying "It's impossible to find"
The quickest way to receive love
Is by giving love
The fastest way to lose love
Is by holding it too tight

Do not dismiss your dreams
To be without dreams
Is to be with out hopes
To be without hopes
Is to be without purpose

Do not run through your life
So fast that you forget
Not only where you have been
But also where you're going

Life is not a race
But a journey
To be savored
Each step of the way

Nice one Ted....

Unfortunately, 1994 was the worst year of my meagre life, because my old man got cancer and died a few days before Christmas, but that was 10 years ago, and I will take solace from the fact that for the last 10 years I have had a guardian angel close to my heart who has been looking after me all this time

It good to know where you are coming from to understand where you are going

BAM!!!

Thanks for making me giggle before 9 am on a Satuday Trin.

Nobody Important, thanks for sharing this with me. Very honest in its simplicity, with the recent death of the father of a close friend of mine I'm definitely forming some new perspectives on the "where" and "when" I'm going.

Good God!, thanks for the glimpse of where others were while I was signing up for drivers-ed.

Muggaz, I too have a worst year of my life, I wonder if it will remain as such. I also wonder how many have a worst year of their lives?

brought back a lot of memories...ah, the sweet 16

How sweet it really was.
