Allow me to introduce myself.....

Hi. Well like the title says I’m mostly just going to be introducing myself. I created this blog because I feel I have alot I would like to remember at this time in my life and maybe I could help a few people out along the way or vice versa. So lets begin :o) First off my name is April I’m 19 years old and from very rural northern Minnesota. I just started my second year of college and like it a ton. I would really like to be a preschool teacher someday. I have only held my current job for about a month but I really like it and plan on being there a while if things go right. Wow that top part really sounded like an online personals add LOL. Speaking of which I am single. Anyway here is some more about me. For the past 2 years I have been trying to get the Gastric Bypass surgery. I went through the process only to find out what I wasn't was not allowed to have the surgery because my insurance company would not cover it. I wanted the Lap-Band. I had lost hope and just given up on the process. But I finally have a new hope. I talked to a lady who had the surgery and she gave me the name of her surgeon. I made some appts. and things are looking well. I decided on the Roux-en-Ywhich my insurance comapny does cover. Aside for this 16 page health history form. I am really excited! Its looking like I should be able to have the surgery anytime between November & January if all goes well and I lose the 25 pounds. Now im sure most of you are thinking why on god green earth would someone have that surgery. I realize people die form it and all but honestly it just seems like my only way out. I have tried everything and it just dont work for me. Im not doing it just to be thin like some people do. Mostly with the profession I want I feel its important to be able to run around with the kids and stuff. Someday I would also like to have my own and I just feel I should be a more healthy mom. The nice added benefit is being the size 8-10 :) So if anyone has had the surgery I would really like to hear form you. On a more fun note the Vikings play tonight! I am a huge fan. I just hope they don't put alot of our good players in we don't need anyone hurt before the season starts. Well that's about all for now. I hope to write on here often and get to know some people. Have a great day! GO VIKES!

April,

Welcome aboard! I hope things go well for you.

As for the gastric bypass surgery, well, noone can make the decision but you, but I will tell you what turned me off on the idea:

My stepmom had it, and couldn't eat any real food for six weeks after. She lost 20 lbs during that time. When I thought about it, I realized I would have lost 20 pounds in the same time if I had nothing but a liquid diet and NO bypass. I am 34, and didn't want to think about the potential long term effects of such a surgery. But it sounds like you've researched your decision (I am assuming your doctor has run tests and ruled out medical conditions such as thyroids, diabetes, etc? If not, you might be well served to have those things checked before the surgery).

Anyway, good luck, and as I said before, welcome aboard.

April: Welcome to JU! It sounds like you have a very fun, busy life. As far as the weight loss goes, I feel compelled to give you my two cents (please forgive me:)). I think you will be hard pressed to find a physician willing to perform a major surgery for a 25 pound weight loss and if you find someone who will, I would question their ethics. (Maybe I am reading your post wrong and you have more to lose?) Sweetheart, you can be a good mommy and an excellent, active teacher (and damn sexy!) without being a size 8 or 10 . . . just take care of your body and go from there. Again, welcome, and I look forward to reading more posts from you!

Yep you read it wrong . I am defentialy not a size 8-10 that would be nice and what I would like to be at someday ok even a 12-14 id still be happy lol. I have much more than 25 pounds to lose I just have to lose the 25 before they will let me have the surgery to prove im actually willing to work after the surgery. Then I will have about another 100 (ish). I dont look quite so big cus im tall over 5'11 and just shy of 6'0. Maybe i will post a pic one of these days.

As a Marylander transplanted to Minnesota, I say that the Colts suck and should go 0-16 every season for at least the rest of the decade.
(What, me bitter?) I don't really care that much what the Vikings do, as long as they beat the Colts. And of course I'm doubly happy when the Ravens beat the Colts.

Ahhh . . . I apologize. I completely misunderstood what you were saying . . . I thought 25 lbs was the full amount you wanted to lose. Sorry about that. I come from a family with weight issues (I currently need to lose 5 lbs to be at my "healthy weight" but maybe 15 or 20 to be at my "old jeans" weight ), and I have many family members who struggle with obesity, so your plight definitely tugs at my heart. Welcome, and best wishes!
