This site still sucks !

I think it's a matter of interacting with others first. I'm new and only occasionally get comments on my own articles, but I do a lot of reading and comment when I feel I have something to say on others. It takes time to be accepted and meet a group of people who like you, why should the internet be any different. Patience is a virtue, and to use another oldy...good things come to those who wait.

I think you have a point. It seems to me you gotta be in the "in" crowd here.

You have to write things that people want to respond to.  It's a blogging site- don't expect responses.  The forum is just another aspect of it.  Also, if you write tons of articles within a very short time, you won't get many responses.  You are better off keeping it to one a day so that people actually see them and don't think that you are flooding the forum.

But, in the end, you can't force people to comment.  If you don't write about what they are interested in, then they won't comment.  As an example- I write reviews on Photography stuff.  I hardly get any replies to them.  But, if I write articles on a more general topic, I'll get replies.  It's not the "site", it's what you write.

I have written about 300 blogs over the past year.  In that time I have been surprised at which articles get comments, and which ones don't.

I have written some really good (I think) articles, but have gotten no comment.  Conversely, I have written some relative stinkers that have gotten tons of responses.

I think a lot of it has to do with what time an article is posted.

By your name, I assume that you write on-line poetry?  I don't like poetry.

Your just as likely to get responses here as you are on any blog site. Your popularity in terms of responses is directly related to whether or not you write things that are of any interest to anyone but yourself. You say you write good, thought-provoking posts, but I'm guessing that's more your ego talking than anything else. I have 24 articles written, perhaps a third of which were at one point or another featured on the front page of the site, and even those didn't garner a ton of replies. You get responses if you write about something OTHER people care about.

Looking at your recent article list... I see 4 that were posted just this morning. Spamming is NOT a way to get attention, in fact it will likely cause people to skip over your blog in the article list in the future (which I now plan on doing). Post less and make your articles count... they will end up being far more interesting than simple one or two line posts.

One way to make sure people take notice is to insult something they like. Good move.

I think the problem is that you are expecting comments. Many people around here blog because they like to write, and comments are an added bonus. Everyone else has already said this, but the topic area is definitely something that will sway how many comments you get. I'm not interested in reading blogs about politics, so I don't, just as others won't be interested in reading my vague musings. If you are writing about highly intellectual topics you won't get many responses as people who don't have a lot of knowledge about said topics don't want to appear foolish.

I'm not going to check out your site now, because you have ticked me off with your arrogance. Would you expect to receive a positive reaction if you walked up to a group of people you just met and said 'I don't like you guys cause no one talks to me'? A little immature, don't you think?

I Agree with Suz, writing blogs like this won't get you the attention you desire. It may get you attention on this article, as I'm guessing you already know that, as this is your second article like this. You get out what you put in, how many times do you comment on other peoples blogs? How many do you spend the time reading, and building up relationships with them people? It doesn't work like that. We all started off in the same position, we joined the site not knowing anyone, and we worked at it, that's why people get comments, it doesn't happen for anyone over night. Whinging about it won't help, it will just make people annoyed. It isn't the site that sucks, if your blog isn't getting comments.

Maybe so, but how many people will automatically skip over his articles from this point forward? I know I will, and from the comments I've seen many other people will as well.

So the summary here is that it's not the site that sucks, it's just your articles that suck!  hehe

But seriously, if you want to get lots of comments you have to play to the crowd and give them what they want.  I do NOT recommend that you do so.  Over time you'll find a happy medium of posting things that you really want to, that are also interesting to readers.
