Bug Report Thread

For users who have version 1.02.49 (stand alone or from SDC) please post any problems you think are bugs here.

Note: A feature you wish the game had or a change in game play is not a bug. ;)

in 1.02.40 the little monster would vanish after a battle with him..ie turn invisible and appear a turn or
2 later visible again. I'm not sure if this has been
fixed for .49..but i thought i'd let ya know :)

Cari knows about it :)

I'm now getting "mystery" diplomatic messages from minor factions. I'll get a pop up message saying that someone will join in me battle against the Drengin, but there's no indication who the message is from.

I've also noticed similar lack of "callsigns" on minor's ships. Clicking on them doesn't bring up any sort of icon designating who it belongs to; you have to bring up the information box to see ownership.

I know this is still a topic of some debate whether or not this is even a bug...but the Military + Social ability picks still give no noticeable change in production capacity or bonus production that I can see.

In addition, I just started a game where morale on my starting planet seemed much higher than the norm. Was there some change to morale in the latest update?

Here's another bug, if theres a UP law protecting all freighters, the comp will send endless ships after your freights and they will follow it moving one space a turn like the freighter but not attacking it:/ The longer this lasts the more ships are sent, and then I show up with a super ranger and pick em off like sitting ducks :(

Oh the comp is at war with you obviously

An update on that morale thing...I just reloaded a previous game and every planet was like 100 morale. That's definately not the way it looked before the latest update. Was there a huge morale boost with the latest update, and if so why?? Morale was already too easy to manage with the last nerfing it got (50 to 58 population cutoff)

I'm not sure if this is a bug, but it wasn't listed on the list of things changed to my knowledge :notsure:

The popup tips for the buttons below the minimap are periodically screwy. It seems that the tip should only show when the cursor is over the buttons, but many times a tip will stay on while the cursor is over the minimap. It will turn off again only when you move the cursor back over the button for a second or completely out of the minimap/button area. This is especially annoying, since the messages are distracting and partially cover the minimap when I'm trying to view or navigate it.

Is the fact that the other "Bug Report" thread has been unstickyed and cast adrift on the tides of the forum a bug or a feature? :)

The math for the different companies you can purchase/lease things from is still screwed up (been this way ever since the retail release version).

For example:

I can buy an item outright for 1300 bc.
I can pay 360 up front, plus 13 bc for 105 turns to United.
I can pay 1040 up front, plus 28 for 59 turns to Terran.

No one who can add would ever be willing to pay over twice per turn for over half the amount of time... and pay almost 3x up front for the priviledge. United and Mitrosoft make a logical progression, Terran is over twice the end cost. It is very obvious there is a problem here. :)

Astax and others:

Please try to be specific when you report something on AI behavior. Each computer player has their own AI. Which player was sending ships after protected freighters?

Here is a new one with the latest patch:

When clicking in a sector on the mini galactic map, sometimes the focus ends up one sector away.

Also, I am having random game crashes. The last one I had I submitted with "Smart Exception." But since I have no idea where that sends the info I will post it here.

There is still a small bug in that you sometimes don't get a message box saying a race has been eliminated by cultural influence. You get something saying a planet of theirs defected, but if that is their last planet then on the next turn they quietly drop out of the game.

Every other type of elimination of a race seems to let you know.

Another bug that has been around since the first release. The "Overall" stat is next to always wrong. You can be in 1st and 2nd place in all of the individual stats but have an overall rating of 8th. I don't see how this can't be a bug.

A strange Research bug here:

While I was playing, I finished researching all technologies, including Final Frontier. So at that point I set the research allocation to 0. After playing for a while, my game crashed. When I restarted and it automatically showed me the research screen, two techs were available. These were "The Better Way" and "Galactic Pacifism." Both before and after this happened I was "good," i.e. had the goody two-shoes skin. Is it possible that I got "more good" and that's why these techs showed up?

When you leave the diplomacy screen after speaking to a minor race through the foreign policy menu, the last major race you selected on the relations screen will have its picture and leader name show up.

In the event that happens when you populate a planet with the Precursor life form. The good bonus was nothing, neutral was +8% planet quality, and evil was also +8% planet quality. Given that, why would anyone choose evil?

Mr Frogboy I think it was the yellow guy :/ I will load my old save game to confirm when I get home tomorrow morning, I hope it's still there :( If it is I'll email you it too.

Using latest build: .049 I loaded up a game and while I had *lost* control of the Senate it now reports me as having control of the Senate AND getting bonuses. I'm the Mercantilists and the Federalists should have control.

The little Skull and Crossbones flag for planets that failed a morale saving throw (first time) never gets cleared even when the planet is surrounded by other happy colonies we've recently taken over. This has been in since 1.0 AFAIK, is this intentional?

Hmm, well my possible bug turn,

1) After updating to newest version, I continued a save game. Under governor/military, going from nothing to contructors, the apply button did not show up to switch ship production.

2) After playing the game for a while, I shut off the game and then reloaded it. When hitting "restore last save" and after being at 100% for much longer than normal, it loaded the last "autosave" and not the last save that I had named. The auto save was 9 turns behind the save I named.

Hmm... Don't know if this is a bug or a feature. But I just updated and loaded a saved game and had my approval rating at 100 %. I upped my tax rate to 80 % and still have 70% approval rating... No I get loads of cash from taxes and my production is maxed out and everythings going greate... What gives, have you nerfed the game a bit too much :) Oh, and I'm playing with all AIs set to Bright, so it shouldn't be because of the difficulty being too easy..

Avatars and Overlords do not show on screen. They act
like stealth ships. Can't see them, but they are there.

Hi,

I am getting a crash when I start up stardock central on my machine. According to msdev it is falling over on a mov instruction, but I don't have a call stack.

Hardware: AMD athlon 700, 128mb ram.
OS: Win98 (SE I think)

There were a couple issues I noticed in 1.02.40 ...not sure if fixed in this new version however a couple things I noticed

1) UP mandates to switch to another government do not affect my civilization...or if it does the change isn't shown in the domestic->government info screen. (ex. If I'm a republic and UP mandates all civilizations be Imperial...the government screen still shows me as Republic)

2) Spelling error in technological tree...ultra computers is displayed as ultra compuers when it is an option for researching

3) When my civilization's govt. is republic and an attempt to change government to imperial is issued...there is a vote done to see if the change is approved. On the vote information screen it says I am trying to switch from Democracy to Imperialism rather than republic.

There's a few other items but I'm going to check the updated version before I post more =)

This is with the latest patch:

I posted on the old bug report thread that the I-League had formed, was destroyed, and a new I-League formed. The new I-League could not be reached via the diplomatic tab, I had to select one of their planets and click "speak to."

ANYway, same game, new patch, this was still the same. I do not know if it would be different in a *new* game created under the new patch, but the patch didn't change things in the old game.
