GC and display resolution

How can I play GC/AP in a window (and not fullscreen) and how can I use higher resolution than 1024x768? The XGA resolution is small on my 1400x1050 lcd monitor and I would like to use a higher resolution to see more of the maps at once.

If you don't know how to run in windowed mode, the easiest way is generally to use a shortcut.

1) Use Windows Explorer to find GalCiv.exe.
2) Right click on GalCiv.exe and choose create shortcut.
3) Right click on the shortcut and choose properties.
4) Click in the target field and hit end. Hit Space followed by a w.

In Gal Civ 2, you will be able to increase the resolution, which will increase the viewable map area. The resolution is fixed in GC 1.
