complaints about colony ships

I'm playing galciv 1.2 and rather embarassed with how colony ships thing is made.
When I launch a colony ship it shows "Loading troops: 1000 mils civilians". Rather irritating to me. But it is a trifle of course. Things are worse when I need to colonize a planet in the same star system. The Grand Old Master of Orion 2 used to have colony bases for this matter (they were much cheeper than colony ships). Here if I understood everything right I have to use the same colony ships. But I cannot specify the number of colonists to transfer. And there's some funny mathematics.
I had 5000 mils on the planet. After selecting colony ship and then another planet I've got 4000 mils on one planet and 4000 mils on another.
Well in Master of Orion 2 colony population was really important and such things just don't look serious to me.

If you don't have the "auto launch ship" box checked you manually launch the colony ship and can specify the number of colonists. As little as 1 million. :)

You could d/l the Omega Pack, it contains a Mini Colony ship, its cheap with a maximum Colonist load of 250mil or the LR Colony ship from the Halut Pack, its a bit more expansive anc can hold 2500mil colonists. Thats specially usefull if you have planets with large popuations and want colonize new worlds with only a small amount of colonists

To Exalted Druid:

Well I can. That's "Loading troops: 1000 mils civilians". But you have to launch colony ship off system and then move it back to system.
What I was writing about was selecting colony ship on system screen (to the right) and then selecting planet on system screen.
