Noobie Question

I am really looking forward to this game but I have yet to play it. Other than having knowledge about the game do players that have been in beta have an extreme advantage over those of us who are going to be rookies.

Do players start and accumulate technology that they can use in online games that will create a disadvantage to the one who is green and just starting?

No, nothing from one game travels to another. :d So you always start out with a frigate and a capital ship factory, a scout, a light frigate, a colony ship, and a builder unit. Also some money, fleet points, and 1 capital ship crew.

Yep, what Thrawn said. The only thing the beta players will have over the new players is the hands-down experience. Sins beta has been MP-enabled since about mid-September, so most of us have had quite a while to figure it out.

That said, a lot of things are going to be changing at release that the beta players haven't seen (including a 3rd race), so we definitely won't be experts at everything :P

Thanks for the input, I guess I will have to run a lot of single player games to get the feel.(Correct me if I am wrong but I read there is no "campaign" style of single player) I am kicking myself in the ass for missing the pre-order beta start!

Welcome! Don't worry, beta-testers will be a relatively small percentage of those playing the game once released. Normally what we like to do with new players is to set up locked team games with experienced players and noobs.  Its a good way to get the hang of things :)

all beta players should only be shipped faulty copies of the game

naw... just kidding, I'll be happy to take on all sorts of absurd challenges by our newcomers. I really want a challenge, so I'll even be ready for some canadian double's matches! after all, we all started out not understanding our heads from our behinds, its simply a phase. a phase that you can hasten your exit from through trial, error and watching others.

Then there are the beta vets like me who've put so much work into a mod that they can't tell what's part of the main game anymore, and haven't gotten much/any multiplayer in for whatever reason. I should be easy game from sheer confusion, but that isn't accounting for the way my fingers have molded themselves to my scroll wheel and my ability to run an entire game from the tree on the left side that will have you perplexed for months. I guess I have enough advantage from experience that you get to paint a full veteran silhouette on your keyboard, but barely.

*waits for noobs to flock to games he's in so he can cover his mouse, keyboard, and headset in noob silhouettes*

I am of course, equally willing to take part in bizarre challenges, such as playing while pretending to do my homework, chores, and the other things that keep me from playing sins, and attempting to beat noobs while looking up obscure references to norway's most popular band (such as the avatar).

yes, but knowing my way around the ui and research trees, in addition to inadvertently memorizing the stats of all the ships will... but they shouldn't know that till after I paint my first few silhouettes. (special hidden veteran comment) I was being sarcastic and trying to lure them into a false belief that micro is actually a valid skill compared to knowing one's way around the strategy and figuring out the units, so instead of playing a few single player games for experimentation before hitting the web armed with knowledge, they try to bury me in mouseclicks. (/special hidden veteran comment) Oh, those noobs don't know the hidden secrets of veterandom contained in this post.
