One AI Opponent-Always In Same Star System?

I wanted to play a game where it me as the TEC and then the computer AI having one account as the Vasari on Hard in the Arelion (or whatever it's name is) sector which is the largest map.

I figured that would give us both time to build up and have some massive fleet battles across multiple star systems.

Instead, out of the 5 or whatever stars that were out there, we both wound up in the same freaking system.  X-( 

Does that always happen if it's just you and one opponent?

this happened because some people were complaining about imbalanced AI placement, this will always happen, BUT im pretty sure you can set it to two AI against you and one of them will spawn far away, but you will still have one in your system. A better option would be Systems of War, which is about as big, has more bonuses and artifacts, and has all players separated at the start.

thanks for the headsup, trying out the Systems of War one now. I've mostly done the random maps, so this is a cool change of pace.  :)

Change the slot the AI player is in for any map and it will affect his starting position. In Aerolian sector the second slot should start him in other system though I can't quite recall the exact algorithm used in beta 4.

Just a heads up, but some of the more dirty minded gamers (or those playing after studying for health class, such as me (perish the thought that an 18 year old male such as I might entertain dirty thoughts)) may see Aereolan (as in 'as pertaining to the region around a certain bit of female anatomy that I may or may not be allowed to mention on these forums') as opposed to Aerolian (perfectly innocent, yet definitely construable as a Freudian slip). Just saying, considering how touchy we Americans are about certain activities that take place in the bedroom. Well, anyway, just a heads up, I'm going to go back to watching people kill each other on TV... wow, that post took a left turn into social commentary.

Ah, I think the problem was I selected one of the other nations further down, since I didn't want to the Vasari to be named "The Trade Coalition". So I can't recall which nation I picked, but I guess I just got unlucky and snagged the one that wound up in the same star system.

I think we should be able to know which slot goes where in relation to starting positions on the setup screen.

I agree. It makes all the difference in large multiplayer team based games.
