History repeating itself, as usual.

History repeating itself, as usual.

Are all the new Vista haters children?

Or do people not remember how this went out during Xp's launch?

Xp was like Seinfield, it was never a complete success like some think, at the end of the first year only 10% of users actually used it.

I bought Xp at launch, on a celeron 500 with a geforce 4 pci and 256 megs ram (Yeah, go me.). This same shit you see now, was going on during the Xp launch.

People were saying Xp is just a visual makeover that makes their games go slower. Windows 98 can do the same things Xp does and more.

As much as some fools here will say they'll wait for Vienna, when Vienna eventually comes they'll be playing the same damn game.

BTW, one finla thing I forgot to mention. When I was 19 in 1998 or thereabouts I got windows 98 on a prebuilt.

Guess what people were saying about Windows 98?

Guess what people were saying when Windows 95 came out? I was 16, I remember.

The one OS I avoided was Windows ME. No one is probably old enough to remember, but ME was special. It was the one OS that at one point had more returns then sales.

As much as you wanna bag on Vista, calling it ME2, it ain't no ME2, and you'll eventually be using it, complaign all you want.

Your just repeating a history of stupidity that will probably last until mankind dies (Probably from this stupidity)

People are stupid.

BTW, read the whole topic before responding. Or just read this next line since the majority of people responding don't seem to understand.

1. Hate vista for reasons that are true.
2. Don't play a hating charade only to use Vista at the end.
3: Saying people can mean any number of people, not just everyone.

Personally I'd love to see a new OS take over, but that won't happen unless people stop this hate/love charade.

If you honestly want to see a new OS, that will actually come from guts. Not playing the same game everyone else has.

Why I like Vista:
It seperates the wannabe tech boys from the real tech men. ;)
That's why you see outsed boys spreading F-U-D on already debunked issues such as DRM, etc. Not that MS is ever gonna give them a complimentary copy, though.

p/s: Opera seems to be very quirky with WC Forums. (For example emotes) Any idea?

ya know I don't hate Vista. It has to go thru the same growing pains as any OS or program. I still use XP but that will probably change once all my stuff is supported on Vista. Just give it time - as long as we don't have an ME (millenium edition - lol) fiasco all is good.

BTW I was one of those who fed on W95 - it was a great advance from the previous OS offerings -it had it's brainfarts too but it worked out brilliantly - isn't it the basis for the screens we all see nowadays? :NOTSURE: .

It may be history repeating itself....that does not invalidate or negate the criticism it is fielding. Nor does it make it childish. What is childish is percieving any or all criticism as a threat. If we look at criticism and see whether the critic has a point then it can be a great tool for improvement or growth. I had ME as my first OS and never once had a problem with it.....there are always exceptions to the rule. I have a valid copy of Vista and removed it. XP allows me to use any app without a problem. And I do not have to bother about buying a more powerful computer to run it as most people do. That is why business people are so slow to change. It means a large capitol outlay to run it. Not just in upgrading the OS but a lot of businesses would need to buy all new computers........not much encouragement but more discouragement for businesses to switch. For those who find it okay for them....that is the individuals right. What makes society less boring is the fact we are not all the same....the differences make us interesting. :D

MS is pretty good at spreading FUD themselves. Google it sometime.

Anyone remember DOS? Does Commodore 64 ring a bell? How about pin fed printers - loved those paper snares with the cheap paper? :D Shoot, I remember my first Red LED TI Calculator. We thought the calc was cool when we could type 14, turn the calculator upside down and it would say HI

The fact is... most human beings resist change. Also, most children except change far better than adults. :)

Each to their own, in their own time. There are real concerns with a new OS. Possible loss of data with a poor install, hard and software incompatibilities, and let's not forget about cost. Amazon has Ultimate on sale for $329.99

Personally I do a lot with graphics, I don't want to worry about downtime, nor software issues. I bought my PC on purpose last Dec, top of the line and Vista certified. It came out when the new PCs were loaded with XP Pro MCE, and a free upgrade to Vista. My Vista upgrade will stay safely in its case until SR1 is released in 2008.

Now, who still needs a Valium? :)

Ummm...

I don't think people exactly LOVE XP. They HAVE to use it. The same will become true of Vista. You learn to tolerate the OS.

Has anyone really thought about the title to the original post?  :d

Did you ever stop to think that the reason history repeats itself is that we failed to learn anything the first, second, third, fourth.................. one hundreth time doing the same thing.

Kind of makes you wonder how we got to where we are. Must be just dumb luck.

Well, yes it does.  XP was going to be the biggest disaster in OSs ever...yet wasn't.  Eventually people conceded it was/is actually good....

The same will apply to Vista....given time....;p
