"This bottle was proudly assembled..."

"...by mentally and physically challenged people in Michigan."

I'm fairly certain that my horse has thrush (an infection in the hoof). So, as we were told by some expert neighbors we mixed 50% bleach and 50% water in a spray bottle and presumed to come to the barn. I got his feet picked out pretty well, as painful as it was for him. But, I couldn't get that stupid spraybottle to work for the life of me.

So, Mom is in the next pasture, taking pictures of her alpacas when I call her over for help. She's naturally frusterated with me; I often ask her for help when I could easily or not so easily have done it myself. So, she works at it for a minute or two, unscrewing the cap and screwing it back together, and mumbles something about mentally disabled people making the bottle, which was brand new by the way. I thought she was making a joke, which I didn't believe you be very funny, in fact.

But then, I looked at some writing on the bottle, that said "This bottle was proudly assembled by mentally and physically challenged people in Michigan." We laughed, really... think about it. But then I had this horrible mental image of these people freezing their pants off in Michigan, sitting in an old concrete building working uder flourecent lighting everyday and late hours into the night, fidgiting their old figers around this plastic trying to make it word somehow--getting paid 10 cents for every one they put together, it probably taking 20 minutes to put each one together.

Then, I dismissed that thought as ridiculous and commenced laughing once more.

it would have been a lot easier to just put the solution in the bottom of a wide bucket and then help your horse put its hoof in the bucket, rather than trying to fight with the sprayer...

but then, what do I know?

I'm no expert, but my neighbor is supposed to be. We were GOING to dump his hoof in bleach water until she said not to. Have you done it that way and does it work?

In the military most of our products are made by prisoners or blind people so I can sympathize.

50% bleach seems a little high.  I don't know that you need that much.  I have put horse's hooves into buckets before, yes.  I would do that before trying to use a spray bottle any day, since my horse doesn't care much for spray bottles.

you can research thrush on the internet and get lots of great information, but then i'm sure you knew that.  have you ever been to www.horsecity.com?

anyhoo, when fighting the thrush, it's good to use the bleach, but it also helps to keep the hoof cleaned out with either your hoof pick and/or a hoof knife.  Also you want to avoid letting your horse stand in mud and/or water for long periods of time.  You basically want to keep the hooves as dry as possible until the thrush is gone.
