Why Do people try to act like they know art

Has anyone ever noticed how who can be reading Shakespeare in class and someone doesn't know the meaning of Wherefore art thou Romeo in the tragedy of Romeo and Juilet? Well I guess if you are only a freshman in a hick school where 2 out of 4 people want to drop out of school and become farmers(no offense to people who want to become farmers) I guess you can't expect too much. But it gets me peed off when some people wouldn't even know Monet if it fell on their head. I guess I'm asking to much for a rose is a rose is a rose.

Art appreciation...you make it sound likes it's something you've either got or havent got. I feel it's a learned thing, mind you some people are probably more inclined to learn it than others.
I live in Australia, and I remember a show that used to be on TV regularly called 'Take 5'. It was a 5 minute segment squeezed in before the news. In it a lady called Betty Churcher, once curator of the National Gallery, took a famous painting and would analyse it. I was riveted as what often seemed an incomprehensible picrture came to life under her guidance. I also found that, by the time she had finished, I could see why the particular artist was considered a genius. All of this in just 5 minutes....imagine if she had a 1/2 hour or more. Sadly the show has gone now, there are others around but I have never seen anyone else explain things with such insight and clarity.

I see what you are saying gerry . I didn't mean to say it like that. I lived in the city and when i moved to a country ( rural ) school I felt that i couldn't talk to anyone about art or books. Now that I have movd into highschool I have been able to progress with many of my good friends. And yes you are right you are taught art instead of being born with the art to know how to interpret it . I also think that it was really cool that you lived in Australia, it must have been a fun experience. Plus, I might not be able to interpret art as many others can because I am only a freshman in highschool. Thank you though for your comments and I hope to hear from you again

hey new-age nomad thanks for the comment on my name but I don't understand the point about fitting in. Just because I like to read and I like art doesn't mean I don't fit in. I love the school I go to event though I complain about it doesn't mean I don't fit in. But thanks and I hope to hear from you again

Shakespeare is one of my favorites but I haven't got to read many scripts by him in school. If you are talking about books I love John Steinbeck and a lot of people like that! What are your's?

Hah!....I love that.....I know your pain....trust me....I know it all too well....but I estimate about 5 out of 8 people possibly dropping out of school in order to do some menial jobs that are crappy....but I hope to not be one of them....as for art appreciation...you've picked the wrong community...no insult to my homies (mostly because they understand this stuff, as I do)....but you're just not in an art/book/play/etc. aware community...that's why we have a tiny band and drama club....but our Ag. Dep. is rather large...not that I'm insinuating anything...lol...but good work and keep'em coming.

Thanks you understand because you go to the school and see what it is like. Yes, it is pretty sad that our drama is smaller than the Ag(no offense to anyone who likes farming) I have friends that are in Ag and I love them to death but it is so hard to talk to someone who actually knows what and who they are talking about. I agree with you hillbilly. That play is so stupid to sit there and read the same things over and over and over again. I'm Friar Lawrence in my english class. I don't even understand half of the stuff that he's talking about, but what can ya do? So would I be a drop out....??? NOPE! I love school too much. Not the work part, but all of my friends that are there like you, Capt., Zoo, Sam, Andy, Alan, and Alex.
