windows vista...

i'm new to this website and i hope someone can help me with a dilemma. i've been thinking about changing to windows vista from windows xp, i think. i've talked to friends and co-workers who either love vista or hate vista. i love customizing my desktop and getting the most out of it. i've been peeking in on this website for awhile now and you guys/girls seem to have a grip on this type of thing . can someone tell me what to expect from vista? i'd appreciate any help you have to offer!

I think you'll find that the same demographic applies here. I have Vista Ultimate, and love it ...but I still have my XP Pro machines as well.

There's plenty of people here that don't like Vista though...

You need to decide what your needs are, and then base your decision on whether those needs can be met with what you have now [XP]. If they can, then buying Vista might be an unnecessary outlay of cash...

Hi, toni220, I have Vista Ultimate 32bit and find it extremely stable, easy to use and, equally as important, customisable. Many of Stardock's ObjectDesktop programs work in Vista extremely well (ie Windowblinds & iconpackager, etc, etc)....and there are some Vista specific apps (LogonStudio Vista & TweakVista) included in the OD suite.

Like Erk, I'll keep XP Pro on my dual boot machine until a couple of 3rd party developers have caught up, but I find that rarely need to go back into XP because more and more apps are being catered for than when Vista was first released.

Yes, there are some who don't like Vista, but only you can decide whether or not you do, and as to which edition you eventually get....there's no magical computer fairies, but perhaps a test drive at one of the better computer stores would help there.

Also, if you don't want to run dreams and are generally a home user, rather than a business user, then Vista Home Premium would suite your needs and will cost a bit less than Ultimate.

1. Make sure you have a late model fast machine with lots of Ram and a good vid card.

2. Dont expect the interface to skin the same way XP does.. it doesn't.

3. As long as you meet requirements 1 and 2...enjoy.

thanks guys! i appreciate the input. my latest computer is less than a year old and it's fast. i have a great video card (um,i'm also a game fanatic ) but i think i'll hold off for a little bit on the vista. best not to jump into something i'm not totally sure of. thanks again!

Great decision....not because you opted not to get Vista, but because you looked at the available information and made your own decision not to rush in.

vista is a visual treat. and i have had no problems with my vista ultimate. it is mostly the pre-installed crapware on OEM machines which are the cause for problems in Vista. i think you will like vista.
