Considering Purchasing: GalCiv routine or new fun?

Folks,

I suppose I have had a penchant for 4X space games, Moo2 and Starships Unlimited two of my favorites. I see MOO3 just trashed and personally I don't like the powdered blue color scheme anyways. So, I am considering GalCiv.

But, is it really just a rehash of the same 4X space formula, which really amounts to just painting the same picture with a new set of paints, or is it really something different and worth the $40 investment?

I'm kindof eager for a new game, but I am suspicious that maybe I will go out and purchase GalCiv, but feel like I've travelled this road too many times before and have buyer's remorse.

Any opinions?

Galciv is great fun to play and is fairly unique. People say it's like civ in space, but there are very few space strategies which give that civ in space feel. You ahould not feel that the game is similar to any other space strategy you played. While having many of the same basic concepts and ideas, it does indeed have a very fresh and unique feel. Not to mention that all important, 'just one more turn feel'.
