Backstory question

Is the backstory revealed in the game? I'm still playing my first game, so I'm not sure if there's more to come or not. For instance, do we get to find out during the course of the game why the Altarians look human? I read the entry about the Altarians in the Encyclopedia and it was interesting. Made me want to know more. Also left me wondering why the encyclopedia doesn't contain entries on all the major races.

Not revealed at the moment. Brad has stated that when things ease off a bit he would love to add a lot more of it. I would therefore expect it to get added in bonus packs over the coming months.
