What are economic and reseach treaties?

This is a nwe feature that i dont no how to use.....are they benificial? what do they do?

Giving one away grants the recipient a free bonus equal to 10% of your total income or research. Likewise you get a bonus equal to 10% of an AIs income or research if they give you one. They do not cost the giver anything, and they can only be broken if you go to war with the race you gave them to, or if they die (at which point you can give it to another race).
