Fat Art?

Fernando Botero

Art is the magic realm to the real world. Artist’s portray there meaning of life in “art”. Some artist’s like DiVinci and Michelangelo are world known, very realistic and are applied to our everyday lives. Others, like Fernando Botero are not as easily understood. At first glance, Botero looks like a nut obsessed with fat, naked people, but you have to look in depth.

Botero uses obesity to his advantage. Everything in his work is portrayed bigger than the actual size it’s suppose to be, including chairs, toilets, and naked women. If you look and concentrate on his art very closely, you might discover that he is reflecting most of our lives. Obesity is a common problem in society today; maybe he is trying to get the message across that it is unhealthy. Or, he might be saying that chunky women are attractive, as in his piece “Botero-Lettera”, or people should be comfortable with themselves like in his other piece “Il Bagno”.

But a milestone that comes across is why he would paint fruit, toilets and chairs as “fat” inanimate objects? He might be portraying that everything we have should be “bigger”(when I say “bigger” I mean more respected) than what we treat them. Botero could be sending a message that we take advantage of everything we use, and not thinking of how other people have it on the other side of the earth.

Art is a gateway to infinite possibilities, defying our realistic world through different perspectives.

Wow. Nice article. Botero always struck me as a guy that liked fat people. I just figured he was fat too. Some of his pictures are somewhat disturbing....

Good work!

Is it ok for me to say that I love "fat" things. You know what they say, "It's always better to have to much than not enough."

Maybe that's his point? Prob. not but it's worth a shot.

Capt. over and out!

Hey sam! Nice aritcle. Bravo! Good start. I'm really not a big fan of art though. Partly because I suck at drawing or painting or really anything that has to do with art. lol. But what can ya do?
