Daily Love Tip #33

Choose Your Spouse As Your Best Friend

An advice column in a popular woman's magazine recently published an unusual inquiry. A bride-to-be wanted to ask her best friend, a man, to be her "maid" of honor in her upcoming wedding. She wanted to know the proper term for a man serving in this capacity. A better question for this woman might have been What hope does my marriage have for survival if the man I marry is not my best friend?

Your marriage should encapsulate the ultimate of every earthly relationship. Your mate should be your best friend, your most trusted confidant, the first--and final--person you turn to when you need advice, comfort and love. Is your spouse your best friend? If not, start working on that today.

Friendship is the foundation of every great marriage.

PERSONAL NOTE: While Barry and I are extremely close, and are what I would consider best friends, this sounds to me like they expect spouses to be the ONLY person you look to for advice and comfort, and that is just NOT me. That seems too isolationist for me.....I prefer to get more than one opinion and then choose some combination of that advice which works best for me.

Dave's my best friend.  He's not the only one I ask for advice, though...but he is the one I go to with the bigger or more personal problems I have.
