I managed to complete research on communications theory and Universal Translator at the same time(due to a 25 percent anomaly my survey ship researched before the end of the turn).
It popped up with the communications theory completed screen but when I pressed the done button it just stayed there. I had to exit to the desktop and close it with ctrl-alt-del. The program didn't crash, but it seemed like it was in an endless loop.
