Beta 3Z1 - series of bugs degenerates game to unplayability.

My current game on a gigantic galaxy has become unplayable. It has experienced one bug after another, each one compounding on the previous, and now I am to the point of discarding the current game and starting all over.

The problems I had were 1). Game crashes trying to save the game (already reported in another thread). 2). Ships dissappearing behind FOW (already reported). 3). Research tech completion screen getting messed up when two completions happened in the same turn - due to space anomalies or espionage (already reported), 4). Galactic resources disapeared (already reported), 5). Could not de-orbit ships that had just been completed (already reported).

The cascade of problems are just too much. So, what is causing all of this? One possibility is a mismatch between files from previous builds and new files, such as the *.EVENTS files, where a lot of duplication of event definition shows up. Are there other duplications? I think there may be some in the music files, but I am not sure about them. For instance there are 5 music files named Race01.MP3 through Race05.MP3, which, when played, sound identical to files ALT.MP3, DRE.MP3, EMP.MP3, TOR.MP3, and YOR.MP3 (not in order listed). Could these be causing problems? Maybe not, but they are suspicious.

I am going to start the long laborous process of uninstalling and reinstalling the whole works. Perhaps there was a glitch in downloading the upgrade that resulted in mangled files that could cause all of this, but I have my doubts.

Cari and Brad,

Before you make build Beta 4 available, please remove unused files from your libraries AND the download servers and check to make sure they stay out. If you can see where the current set of problems in 3z1 could cause the degenration I have described that would be helpful as others may be experiencing this same degeneration without recognizing it as yet and if you can fix it without their having to uninstall/reinstall that would be great.

I think the bugs are just plain old programming problems, not duplicates in music or other files.

Brad, or any Stardocker with a breath to take!

How are thinks going beta 4-wise? I imagine its a bit manic. Their seem to still be quite a few significant points flowing in from testers on possible polishes and enhancements, is beta 4 now closed? are bugs and suggesion reports now not worth the time and effort?

More importantly, how do you feel your baby is looking?

The last poll on Stardock on appreciation of feedback was unprecedented. For a cynical old gamer like myself, this experience is very refreshing. How do you feel this interactive approach has been and have stardock really taken that much onboard from testers and into the game? Which tester environment comments influenced the game most in your view?

I am not really that familiar with beta-testing (I normally just buy the ones I love :) but this experience seems to have been a bit unique.
