Error Readings

Hi Yrag

Ok..here's the problem. I'm trying to make a data DVD and also tried making a data CD, but I keep getting these errors which make no sense to me and I was hoping they made some sort of sense to you.

E80041899: Write error - buffer underrun occurred - [06/C5/00]
E80041934: TrackWriter error - Flush failed - [T7127]
E80041925: TrackWriter error - Command retry failed - [T7118]

It goes through the process of copying the data...then right at the end it craps out. Any light you can shed on this would be much appreciated. I'm using "Roxio Easy Cd Creator" and even when I try just copying the files by select all and copy the files using windows I get errors.

hmm.... have you tried burning at a lower speed?

The last two errors are the result of the first. An underrun is when your system cannot write fast enough to the rom drive. If the 'Underrun Prevention' option is grayed out then your drive doesn't support it. If there is no other option to slow down the drive write speed, then your only option is to shutdown any unnecessary apps running and try it again. If you knockdown the Internet, you can kill the AV, Firewall and any Spyware apps you have running (that could very well do the trick)

The thing is...I was able to copy file to disc before with no problem. After trying to copy the files with no success I tried copying only 1 small file and still no success. The I went into safe mode a tried it that way...same results. So you think shutting down everything would do that trick. How about purchasing a program other than roxio? That is what came with the pc and its pretty much a basic outdated version, but it still used to work with no problems.

In the meantime I'll give your suggestion a shot.

Ok...tried shutting stuff down and its still a no go. I also tried doing a system file check...it asked for my Cd...but it asked for WindowsXP Professional and I have the home edition. So it wouldn't even do a file check. Something seems really borked up...but everything except copying files to a disc is working fine. I tried copying some png files to see if maybe it something to do with the audio files I was trying to copy...but it said windows had a problem copying the files...it just never says what the problem is. Wish there was a way you could tap into my pc...knowing you...you'd probably find the problem in no time.

The issue here is that it USED TO burn successfully...but now does not.....something that link bears no relevance...

Let's eliminate the drive as a cause..... try using the XP Write to CD option. Insert the blank CD and on the prompt select 'Copy to CD using Windows' option.

Ok...tried that...its gets to the final steps of "performing final steps to make the cd ready for use" and hangs at the last 5 seconds...saying there was an error writing the cd....doesn't say what though.

This doesn't sound good for the drive. From the original post, I thought this was a new drive. That original error is sometimes caused by a drive headed for retirement. XP stopping right at the end also points to a bad drive. I assume you're using different blank CDs each time, have you by chance changed CD brand since the last time it worked?

Try something; put a new blank in and then right click on a folder and click 'Send To:' and click 'CD Drive'. (For simplicity, just make a folder and put a dummy text file in it.)

Btw: the error will be found in Administrative Tools/ Events

Tried to post last night to no avail.......

Perhaps a dumb question, but have you tried uninstalling via device manager and rebooting to allow XP to reload the drivers?

Failing that, you might see if uninstalling/reinstalling the Roxio program will work, if you have either a disc or a restore partition that allows reinstallation of the prepackaged software.

During phone chat with Yrag it became clear there are more problems than just the dvd not copying. Most likely caused by another program that might have hijacked or changed some registry settings. A reformat will be the course of action after getting an additional harddrive to backup existing files.
