Is there a way to purchase/obtain/get the original OS/2 Game?

If there is a way to get the original game i would be very interrested. I got a spare Computer and could put OS/2 on to test this game which is said to beat MAster of Orion 2 (which is almost blasphemic since no game is better than the best... )

No, i'm not interrested in another beta version game, i had enough Betas recently. It's always better to get surprised by a good, finished, working game.

However, the windows beta is way passed that game by now. It's a bit like comparing the first doom-game with Quake 3. Even tho it's a few months away from the release.

I disagree that the new windows version is 'way passed' the old os/2 version. They are different. Graphics aside, the os/2 version had the Terror star, Paladin, Ranger, Excalibur and BattleStar ships that everyone could build. Plus it had the Terminator and Corvettes ships that good/bad races may build. There are Galactic improvements like Dinosaur Park (+50% ecomonic) and Crytalis (+1 to all planets in your star systems) that are not in the new windows version. There are differences in social projects that you may build. There was also the deep space movement penalty (-1) which does not exist in the windows version.
OS/2 ver 2.0 added convoys, improved graphics and sounds.
Both versions ran on a 486 PC. At the largest map setting, my 486-100 had no trouble.

Well, I disagree :)

Most of the things you mention are just extra ships, social improvements and research items. Not extra functionality. In the windows-version you have new features like influence and starbases. Along with a huge graphic improvement and a few more races :)

My guess is that the extra ships and IMPs are ready to ship, but as they dont need any testing (not including any new functions) SD chooses not to release them yet. My guess anyway.

Altho the OS/2 version can be intresting to play too, I do that a little every month or so - but if I were to buy ONE game, I'd much rather go for the new windows-game instead of the old OS/2-game.

And the game is not done yet. We don't know what ships the game will have when it is complete. They are still working on it.
