I bought that game a couple days ago, from the same devs as Endless Space and Endless legend. Please be careful with this game, it can cause serious sleep deprivation.

The thing is ultra addictive, I just can't stop playing it and really losing on my sleep time. I hope that if I play it enough I will grow bored and be able  to return to my normal sleep schedule. No sign of me growing bored so far... Consider Yourself warned.

And it is still an alpha...

Yeah that game is pretty damn solid even for an alpha.

Dungeon of the Endless: So good it needs a health warning!

I haven't played it yet but I keep hearing good things about it.

It is very fun but "alpha" because of limited content. What they have is incredibly solid, but you can play through it in a night.

It is pretty hard in a Rogue-like way, but also has you coming back for more even after you failed miserably.  It has 2 diffulty settings currently. EASY and TOO EASY....

Well, TOO EASY is pretty much that, not very challenging. I beat all 8 levels in the Alpha on the first try. Then there is EASY, which is pretty HARD.  I have never beaten level 4 in a dozen games on easy. I can't wait to try again

I think I am not careful enough. But the catch is that the game rewards you for taking risks.

I haven't tried that one yet, but Amplitude seems to be doing things the right way.  I bought into the alpha of Endless Legend and am having that 'one more turn' experience myself.  What's gonna happen when the game is fleshed out?

Ah!  So they have two games in early access?  I didn't know that.  I like Endless Legend, so I might take a closer look at this.

Yes they have two games in early access. However DOTE it is a different type of game. It is still in the same universe as their 4x titles though.

DOTE is a Game that takes elements of a rogue-like, strategy, RPG and tower defense and crunch them into a darkly humorous and beautifully crafted piece of pixel art gaming.  It is highly addictive, be warned.

Btw I am having my best run so far, halfway through level 5 and still kicking.

Endless legends is a 4x fantasy game. Dungeon of the endless is a tower defense / rogue-like game.

Well it is quite possibly me but I found Dungeon of the Endless confusing and completely uninteresting to play. As far as I could work out you don't actually have full control over the characters. The graphics are so bad that you can't work out what is what. This retro-crap is starting to get annoying. For years we had to endure shitty graphics because there was no alternative, now it is hip to go back to blocky graphics? Bizarre.

I have tried endless legend a few times now. The interface used is quite full on, it is difficult to understand what is going on. The design choices are odd, e.g., dialogs that look like error messages when they are infact giving you options. ONce again the characters don't appear to be under your full control, you try to move them into a certain hex and they won't, but also you get no feedback as to why.

The city building is a confusing mess. All in all this game company seems to use design concepts  that are completely at odds with my expectations and my play style which means the learning curve for me is quite high and not very enjoyable. So instead of wasting my time even further I played 6 hours of Age of Wonders, the latest 1.1 patch seems to have improved that game no end.

Anyway, just my two cents worth

The "Endless" is part of Amplitude Studio's world building universe for thier games. The "Endless" are their precursor race that ruled teh universe but then 'mysterioulsy died out'.

Ok, after reading about how excited people are about endless dungeon I decided to watch someone else play on youtube. I have just had my first proper go - I am pleased to say - I agree it is quite cool. I still don't like the graphics

Which means... that you didn't have a "proper go" before your previous comment? That's pretty shitty, dude...

@Heavenfall that was a bit uncalled for. I don't see how that is shitty and I certainly don't require your unsolicited opinion and personal attack.Very childish.

I still stick to my comments that the game is a mess as far as the UI goes. The graphics are shoddy and all in all the game is not intuitive.

I can understand this.  The game is still an alpha build, and there are a lot of features and tooltips that aren't yet implemented.  But cursory internet searches and reading the included manual can fill you in on most of the basic concepts.

I had watched a LP before trying the game so I knew how to play before I got in.   I just jumped in like it was an old pair of shoes. I have no problem with the UI, it is pretty simple and basic.  But I wish it was more informative about a few things, like when a hero is being attacked or when there are monsters left. But it is still an Alpha now.

I am also a fan of old school games. I have litterally never stopped playing the SNES, NES and Sega Genesis for 20 years ( Not talking amulators, I still have the real 8/16 bit consoles connected to my TV), so I actually like the retro Graphics.  I find them beautiful.

What is nice about this game is finding your strategy. When you are still a rookie and you get owned it is still fun because you keep trying new things. Then you find tricks that works and then you go further in the game and it is gratifying.   The pattern used to open new doors is very important. If you open doors at random you lose.

The good thing of modern techonology is that we can have more varied styles of graphics/art. I'm not super  fan of this kind of pixel art but it has its charm. Plus my old graphic card has no issue with the quality.  I don't find difficult to distinguish stuff in the map. And while combat/repairing may be automated, you can pretty much control where to deploy your characters, activate the combat skills when you decide,...

In gameplay, the game is really interesting. What's behind the door? Damn question. Too Easy is good to learn: power up rooms to avoid spawns, reserve food for possible recruits AND healing, don't completely ignore research, you can pause the game once spawns happen to change which rooms have energy, buy from merchants at the end of the floor,... Easy on the other hand, doesn't seem "easy" at all. While I have only tried it twice (of four games so far), the third floor has broken me twice. Only two guys is not enough there but when you lack food to recruit (first try) or simply you don't find anyone to recruit (second try, clearing the whole two firts levels), not much to do. Much like FTL, you can know (some of) the tricks and still not beat it because rogue-like.

The UI is what it is. Being alpha, it lacks options, tooltips... but otherwise, it's relatively easy to use. To understand how some things work without hints, may be tricky but Let's Plays there are more than a few (watched a few minutes of one) and trial and error still works.
