"A psychological horror game, Shadow of the Eternals is the spiritual successor to Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem, being developed by the original creators of the popular and critically acclaimed classic. Featuring an eclectic cast of heroes and villains, Shadow of the Eternals will span thousands of years of history. Players’ perception of reality will be shattered as they try to balance the mechanics of combat, magick, and exploration as they progress through the adventure." - Shadow of The Eternals kickstarter page
I've been following the progress of the Shadow of The Eternals kickstarter lately, and a few days ago I was thinking about places to pimp the kickstarter info, and I thought of this board, but then my powers of laziness kicked in and I went to sleep and didn't post anything
. But then a couple days later I was listening to a podcast over at Shadow of The Eternals forums, and when everyone was talking about what games they're playing now, the chief creative officer for the game, Denis Dyack, said that the game he's been playing and recommending lately is Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes. Excellent taste! That reminded me to get over here and pimp the game, so here I am!
There are actually a lot of parallels between between where Fallen Enchantress was a couple years ago, and where Shadow of the Eternals is now, as far as the business/personal "controversies" are concerned. They don't seem to add up to much of relevance to the project, once you apply a bit of logic. It seems to boil down to a sort of cynical, hipper-than-thou, mob-mentality schadenfreude. In my mind, that's just more reason to support the project, and if anybody understands where I'm coming from, it should be the Stardock peeps.
Anyway, the project is looking sharp as hell. Everything I've seen and read so far makes me think that these guys really understand what made Eternal Darkness so unique and great. If you, like many, missed out on Eternal Darkness back in the day, this is a perfect opportunity to get in on the ground floor this time. The kickstarter might be a bit of a longshot, with a goal of 750k, but that's all the more reason to work harder to spread the word, and make sure you're on the right side of history, by being a pledger!
Also, the forums for the game are pretty nuts, and a great place to check out, as well. If you have pledged, you get access to the section of the forums where you can suggest the concepts and creations that will make up much of the game. For example, there is a sub-forum where you can suggest ideas for new Sanity Events. To give you an idea of how nuts the support for the game is: that podcast I was listening to, was actually not the official Precursor podcast, but a community-created podcast. That's right: the pre-production game already has two distinct podcast series covering its progress.
