So...what seems like a long, long time ago, Stardock was making this new game that was hyped (not by Stardock) as the next Master of Magic. This game was called Elemental: War of Magic.
Now, as it turned out, all was not well with Elemental. Many people reported bugs - if they could even play the game - because the engine that the game was developed for wasn't compatible with many configurations of computers. Luckily Stardock had...and indeed still have...this awesome CEO caled Brad. Brad also didn't like what he realised Elemental was, and he promptly promised that customers who had bought Elemental: War of Magic by a certain date would receive a copy (digital) of Elemental: Fallen Enchantress by the time it would be ready.
And that is exactly what I got. I'm happy with that - even though I actually had my share of fun with War of Magic. So that's the end of that...or at least so I thought. 'Cause today I decided that it was time to purchase Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes, which I hadn't gotten around to doing yet (shoot me, if you will...but there is a real life to handle too
). So I open up my favourite browser (which just happens to be Google Chrome, but that is totally beside the point I'm trying to make here) and type elementalgame.com in the address bar. I navigate to the purchase section, and see that if I own Fallen Enchantress, I might be eligible for a discount...I just need to log in to check.
I'm no better than the average person, of course, and as such I happen to like discounts, so I log in and discover that my new, shiny discounted price for legendary Heroes is $0. Yup...that's right. Z - e - r - o dollars and z - e - r - o cents. And that is where I start to wonder. At what point has Stardock atoned for War of Magic. Remember: I actually had fun playing that game. Surely at some point, it's ok for Stardock to start charging me for games in this series again. For me, that point is now. I would have paid full price for Legendary Heroes (I got the base game for free, remember?). I'm happy that I was eligible for a discount, but you could have left it at that. $19.99 seems as fine a price as any. Free, however?
You could say that I should just shut my mouth and be happy that I got something for free...and I am of course. The point I'm trying to make is merely that Stardock have done more than enough to atone for War of Magic, and that I would like to see my $ spent making a killer GalCiv III
So from the bottom of my heart: Thank you, Stardock....however: Feel free to actually take some of my money next time
