How about dual-wield swords and daggers?

No that we have been introduced to dual-wielding (axes) I am curious how difficult it would be to develop dual-wielded swords and daggers (perhaps limited to assassin classes, or a certain kingdom). They could add to defence and/or initiative versus their single-wield counterparts, but be more expensive and harder to find...

Would be a cool addition to the game, no?

There was a special Sov, Nym from Destiny's Embers, in WoM that dual wielded, he had an off hand dagger that provided an attack and defence boost. I would love offhand items like that be added.

It drives me nuts to have assassins carrying shields. It's actually really easy to implement dual wielding blades. I've tried creating an offhand defensive dagger, but the blade model still shows up in the right hand (though a weapon can still be equipped).

I miss Kenata... his efforts on the dual wield front were admirable.

i think a practical implementation could be off hand items (basically shields) that add attack and accurracy instead of defense/dodge.

not really sure the game needs it, though. i'm not a fan of dual wielding. IMO, this is one of the most overused tropes in fantasy RPG. every freaking RPG in the last decades has that silly dual wielding assassin/rogue stereotype. why should a guy who is trained to kill his victims silently with a single blow actually wield another blade in his left hand... never made any sense really. it's refreshing to play a game that doesn't cater to the "rule of cool".

Not that it matters, but it comes from all those martial arts movies where an extremely agile assassin with two blades can attack multiple enemies and parry/strike with both hands... (think ninjas).

Kind of like the latest movie/TV fashion of shooting with two guns (one in each hand) which, as anyone who has ever shot a handgun will tell you, is frigging annoying and ineffective - the recoil from one gun makes the other one shoot wide, and vice-versa...

yeah that's probably a big influence, too. i always thought R.A. Salvatore's rather famous dark elf character Drizzt Do'Urden (and his evil nemesis/counterpart Artemis Entreri) was one of the reasons why dual wielding was such a common thing in fantasy RPG games. i mean, Drizzt is really kick-ass (and he's still one of my most beloved novel characters, ever), but overusing the dual wielding really waters it down, IMO. it's nothing special if every rookie rogue character gets that trait in almost every game

dual wield would be really awesome and lore friendly too. If added in the game i will finally be able to make that field assassin i had in mind along with poison attacks ala WH Dark Elves style

I do not think that dual wielding assassins are any more overused than any of the other clichés in the fantasy genre. As Lord Xia said, fireballs and dragons. I did ask about Nym sometime ago, but the folks at Stardock never replied to it.. I was hoping he'd make a return to FE or LH. Maybe he will yet!

Now.. Drizzt is a badass, of that there is no doubt. However, I doubt he is the origin of the appearance or frequency of characters that dual wield, most notably assassin/rogue-like characters. I can't rightfully say where the inspiration comes from, but may have something to do with the Areani (a group of spy/assassins dating back to ancient Rome) and other groups like them. But I don't know for certain.

Speaking of dual wielding dudes.. You can't mention it without at least giving some love towards Miyamoto Musashi. Now that guy was a dual wielding badass, among other things.

Dual Wielding Daggers should absolutely happen

Dual Wielding Swords. Meh. I would rather see a trait that specializes in using sword One-Handed for a bonus in Damage/Dodge (When no Shield/Weapon slotted in the off-hand)

I think Assassins dual-wielding daggers (or a sword and dagger offhand) would be cool for gameplay. They're supposed to be the crazy offensive glass cannon class and it fits right in. But warriors in full plate wielding two swords would just be ridiculous. I'd say that if Assassins get dual-wielding they should lose most/all of their armor proficiencies.

I wouldn't mind offhand daggers that counted as shields, only wearable by champions (cannon fodder troops wouldn't dual wield for the most part- I could see exceptions- maybe make offhand wielding an assassin trait that Yithril troops and assassins automatically get, and warriors can pick as a trait)

That might be the way to do this. Or have daggers count as weapons or offhand weapons- you can take your pick. might be too much work for this version, save it for the next expansion (Brad mentioned something about that a few months back)
