It does tell you on the treaty negotiation menu in diplomacy.
I do agree it needs to be more consistent though. Also, In the past I've had AI's break the NAP from tribute.
we will get the tool-tip text updated to indicate the NAP... if someone can provide a save that reliably gets the AI to break a NAP from tribute please send me it and we can fix that issue too.
