Question from newbie player (LH)

Hey everybody,

I got LH the other day and quite like it so far and despite my scant experience of FE, this version seems a lot more immersive and interesting.

So yesterday I sat down to play my first serious game of LH and I was doing well when monsters suddenly surrounded my cities in hordes. Skeletons were everywhere! One town was destroyed by a spider whose den I had probably let my town expand to, and about the skeletons.. no idea. Could it be that I never finished some quest and that they kept spawning or something?

not sure, it might be an event another poster mentioned. Honestly though, our town militia are so massive, that really only big groups of enemy nations, or the random rampaging dragon are all that can really pose much of a threat. I have yet to have random monsters beat out my militia and take a town from me. Excepting those dmn dragons.

There's a skeleton event that occurs in LH, spawning packs of skeletons that roam around the map. You might want to turn down (or turn off) event frequency before spawning a new game if that's cause for concern.

As for the spiders: yes, it's generally a good idea not to lay down a settlement or monolith near a lair/den. Most monsters will then start roaming around. The more intelligent ones will go right for you, and the others will probably do so, eventually.

Yes, I had this event ,too. I could handle them, but a little bit tooooooo many skeletons for my taste.

Yes, the skeleton (and later a fire-serpent)event spawns many,many of the monsters. But they start scattered and weak. Go after them right away and you create an 'experience' farm for your sovereign/hero(s)/units. AS they wander around, when they 'meet' another, they combine. If left alone, they eventually combine into several powerful armies... and that's bad news for any weak settlements near by.

I've lost a town to some troll army. So I disagree about that militia statement. Sure they keep wolves at bay, but you're not invincible.
