Elemental: Fallen Enchantress 1.3 Now Available!

Stardock has released its biggest update to its popular fantasy strategy game, Fallen Enchantress thus far.

Version 1.3 of Fallen Enchantress adds:

New spells
Adds hundreds of new unit designs for the AI

FYI, there is no "real" turn limit. It just stops keeping score, you can keep playing after the turn limit hits.

Has the AI forgotton how to expand an empire now?

Every game I've started so far, I end up with 4-5 cities within the first 100-200 turns (which is VERY good game design, imo). However, I would expect something similar from AI players...at least a few of them....but nothing. They've all got 1-2 cities. I'm playing on challenging with challenging AI so I just expect them to be...you know...a little more challenging.

That said, I do sacrifice my military production in the early game, building only enough to defend my extreme borders. Perhaps the AI is packing on the military buildup as an alternative, BUT if that's the case, it sure doesn't show in the faction power UI. I'm doubling any other two AI.

To conclude, I think SD is really going the right way with this. The AI just has to pull up their socks a little so that they have comparibly sized empires being built.

i noticed that some AI players don't build more than their capital and a few outposts, but in my 1.29 and 1.30/1.31 games there were always at least some AI civs that would build a wider empire. i believe the monster density plays a role, too. in my current game, i set it to dense, so there are quite a lot of dragon lairs an all that stuff between the starting locations and some of the AI seem to be intimidated by the hard monsters. others apparently don't care or got lucky with a few early city locations with only easy monsters to clear.

The AI is definitely expanding now. I found one with 5 settlements and I only gots 3 and the rest have 2 apiece in a 7 player game on a medium map. Besides that they are placing outposts and building the buildings on the resources there. Their capitals are well defended with 9 units (how the hell do they afford them is my question? lol), but, I still see a wandering solo sovereign or champion running around still. One or two or several of them has been being asshats and unleashing dragons from their wilds perches and of course they love running over inot MY territory and destroying my outpost and resource builds I have there. I started out waaaaay ahead in Faction Power and now two of them have caught up to me. Still trying to figure out what all the hell counts for Faction Power. I'm waaaaay ahead on techs and have a monster stack that nobody could defend against in the open yet I'm 3rd place now in FP.

Still very happy to see the AI playing this way and fairly aggressively. They are taking advantage of the lower settlement AI's and offering me TRIBUTE as soon as it runs out. lol They all fear me even though 2 are higher in FP. I bought a WAR between the two highest factions and I thought that was pretty cheap really only 428 gildar and I have nearly 1000 (but I took wealthy trait when I started). I often question though how much warring AI's do against one another when the human player buys them into it?

The other games I played before(1.20) both on Normal and Challenging I thought they expanded to fast. Only played 1 so far but out of 3 only 1 AI had more cities than me.

Yes but everybody doesn't EXPLOIT Pioneer spam like others do. Some of us like to give the AI a chance and make the game more fun and challenging than rushing Pioneers out as fast as we can.

I won't build a pioneer unless I see a spot to plunk it.

If the AI can't get their act together, than there is improvement needed.

For example, in the game I'm playing, I'm over 200 turns in. I have 5 cities. Came across Yithral who has 2 cities, but there is a beatiful 3/3/3 spot just to the south of their capital. Why wasn't this settled? Over 200 turns. Now, granted, as soon as I saw the location and made plans to lower the mountain range (because abusing lower/raise spells at 5 mana per cast is just WAY TO ABUSIVE) blocking my way, Yithral did finally build a pioneer and beat me to the location.

Does make me wonder if the AI sees everything going on in the FoW sometimes...

Well, in my current game one of the AIs settled in my territory two times and another snatched a very nice spot for an outpost from me. So that might be just some sort of weird misbehaviour that isn't always there.

BUT on the other hand their champ did NOT go for a goodie hut for multiple times though he had a good opportunity. Also I have come across the already posted prob that some champ's army consists of nothing but pioneers. So there is still a lot of need for AI improvement.

Other than that one of the AIs (the one settling in my territory) is quite well equiped in terms of armies. Even with Mages!

I'm afraid though that once my fortress with currently 64 production points has spouted enough high level units I'm gonna level em all quite quickly.

Guess my next game will be on a higher difficulty level than challenging (which I'm playing now because I hate it when the AI can only compete through bonuses and cheating).

I feel the same. AI shouldn't receive bonuses and cheating in order to be competitve.

It's why I've been doing all my play testing on challenging.
