I don't know if it will make a difference but since the start of beta I've always deleted all custom races, sovereigns, and past game saves with each patch or update. I've never had any crash problems while I've known others with the same/similar hardware that didn't take the same measures that did have problems.  Maybe you already took such precautions. If not it might be worth a shot.  You can always move the files to some temp folder to test if you are attached to them.  Just make sure you get them all.  Even one can mess up the test.

i too am have the problem. have not tried with non custom, but i do have the map paq also

In my first game with 1.1 I've had 5 or 6 crashes also - sometimes the 'blue screen of death,' sometimes the 'white screen of death,' and sometimes it just dropped out and left me on the desktop.

I also was using a custom faction.  I'll try to delete it and rebuild it in 1.1.

As some have pointed out, if you're using a faction built before the patch, try remaking it.

A BSOD indicates a driver or hardware issue--you can use the exact message on it to help pinpoint the cause.

Installing the beta 1.11 patch appears to have fixed the crashes with the custom faction.
