I have the following configuration:
- Intel Core i7-3770K w/ Intel HD4000 Graphics
- AMD Radeon HD7970
- ASUS P8Z77-V motherboard with LucidLogix Virtu MVP controller
- Primary video set to the Intel iGPU
- All monitors plugged into motherboard, not the Radeon
- Windows 8 Pro 64-bit
- Catalyst 12.10
- Intel graphics driver 9.17.10.2875 (the 2875 is the important number)
- Virtu MVP 2.1.115a.23214
Virtu MVP decouples where the application is rendered from (i.e. which GPU core), and where it is rendered to (i.e. which display output). With Virtu MVP, you can:
- Render from the iGPU and output to the iGPU
- Render from the discrete GPU and output to the discrete GPU
- Render from the iGPU and output to the discrete GPU
- Render from the discrete GPU and output to the iGPU
- Render from the iGPU and output to multiple monitors connected to different GPUs
- Render from the discrete GPU and output to multiple monitors connected to different GPUs
- Render from a hybrid of both the discrete GPU and iGPU and output to any of the above possible outputs
The Virtu MVP Control Panel, screenshot below, is the mechanism that lets the user control where the graphics is rendered from.
If the dot is in the "D" column and "H" is checked, then the graphics are primarily rendered from the discrete GPU, with some help on shaders from the iGPU.
If the dot is in the "D" column and "H" is unchecked, then the graphics are only rendered from the discrete GPU.
If the dot is in the "I" column and "H" is checked, then the graphics are primarily rendered from the iGPU, with some help on shaders from the discrete GPU.
If the dot is in the "I" column and "H" is unchecked, then the graphics are only rendered from the iGPU.
So far, Elemental displays a black screen then crashes on startup for all options except for the last one I just listed: iGPU mode with hybrid off. It would be great if the developers can look into this to see if they can fix it. Virtu MVP in "D" mode has worked with every other game I've played (though admittedly none of them are Stardock games).
