The Escapist has a great review up of Fallen Enchantress and gives it a 4/5!

“Elemental: Fallen Enchantress engenders a feeling of real accomplishment, without requiring the investment in time and study demanded by truly hardcore strategy titles. The "sovereign" mechanic is a nice twist and while it's not particularly deep, personally cracking skulls or questing for a pair of dragon's eyes while simultaneously ordering the construction of a granary in New Foozleville is pretty damn cool, and there are enough customization and gameplay options to keep things fresh for a good while.”

It's looking like Stardock can legitimately add "critically acclaimed" to Fallen Enchantress' resume.  Scores in the 80% range are generally considered excellent for a niche game like this.

That said, I do hope that Stardock is taking the rather unanimous "lack of focus" criticism seriously.

Another good review.  This is going well so far!  Not likely to see any troll reviews; no blood in the water, no sharks

Much better than MoO3 and WoM.  Good job on this launch SD!

Side Note

Is that our Seanw3 posting at the end of the article?  If so, good looking out!  Remind that disgruntled poster that if he bought WoM, he gets Fe free, or discounted (depending on when he opted in).

How long does it typically take for Metacritic to take new reviews into account? The Escapist is one of the publications they track, after all.

I don't. I haven't even seen a "lack of focus" comment in other reviews, and I think that a strategy game, with entire worlds as its canvas, should necessarily be very broad.

Perhaps you're misconstruing other comments about blandness, the lack of a "grab" to the game. Those are valid to some extent.

Other reviews haven't used the phrase "lack of focus", but most of them have mentioned that the disparate elements don't necessarily mesh well together, which essentially means the same thing.  There's no one thing in FE that you can point to and say, "This is what makes it a great game!"  In general it's a good game, but it needs a stronger role playing element or a stronger civ building element to really make it stand out.  Pick one thing to be the primary focus and design the other features to support it.

Its the lack of soul that gets mentioned a lot, and I honestly agree, the lack of differing reactions of the factions based on their relationship with you is one example, there all the same, whether they like you, hate you, are at war, ect ect and even seem to ignore whom you are as well.

For example playing as the Kingdom of Altar as Relias and Cersa gives her standard greeting... I assume she wolud be rather pissed off at Relias at the current time, but I guess she forgives easily.

Galactic Civilizations II got this right, each faction's leader had their own personality for differing situations and gave the player a variety of greetings depending on the situation, past interactions, whether they liked you, or hated you, and what race you were, it was definietly lively. Not to mention humorous. "Did you see what I saw in the latest edition of Torture Daily Magazine?" LOL
