AI and Monster Behaviour

One of the thing that makes this game tremendously less fun for me is that I have to deal with the AI's idiocy towards monsters. As I said in Tuidjy's thread, at this point I would almost prefer a toggle to let the AI be ignored by monsters. 

 

The AI does not care about monsters when it places it cities. The problem is not that the AI is ignored by the monsters, the problem is that the AI activates them off their lairs all of a sudden a group 3 skaths shows up right next to one of my cities, through no fault of mine, and burns it to the ground. 

 

Please, either make the AI more nuanced when it deals with creatures, or just have them ignore the AI so the player doesn't have too contend with the side effects with the bad choices that the AI makes.

You talking about the AI not paying attention when founding cities next to Dragon Lairs of woe, death, and destruction?

Yeah.. that hurts everyone. They should be more careful.

Agreed, I think the way monsters work is probably the most annoying part of the game as it is. You have to either game the monsters and AI to keep them apart or be in a position to be able to deal with the consequences of them coming together.

I think the monster AI needs to be a little  less "random" when it comes to lair guardians.

The lair guardians need to stomp what sets them off and then return to their lair not wander around.  The random wandering should be left for the monsters that spawn from the lairs.

 

During the beta I watched on of my neighbors build a city near my border.  A several turns later a dragon turned up and destroyed the city; hung around in the area for a while and then wandered off into unexplored territory.  The AI came back and build a new town next to where the old one had been only to have the dragon turn up again and repeat its actions. This happened 3-4 times.  Where did I find its unclaimed lair; about 10 tiles away pass two outposts belonging to two different AI's next to a third AI's undefended city.  None of which were destroyed in during the last couple of attacks
