I had a try with the Builders Forge today and I have to say, I'm disappointed. There are nice assets to use on your custom tiles, but if you want to combine them it is a pain in the a**. They have all complete different scales and you can't adjust scale, rotation and position with keyboard shortcuts. Once you placed an item on the map, you can only modify it with hard to use sliders and wheels. Not even moving it around is possible without sliders. Also if you have for example a fence placed and scaled to match a building, you can't just duplicate it. The loading of existing tiles is equally painful, as you can't filter or search them. It is just a very huge list with a scroll bar.
I'd love to create some nice tiles, but I can't be bothered with this clumsy tool. I can't believe the content editors created all the tiles with this tool. This must have taken them ages!
Here some suggestions on how to improve it that shouldn't be too hard to implement:
- add some numeric input fields for all the sliders as an addition
- allow them to be manipulated with keyboard shortcuts, eg. xyz + arrow keys for the rotation and simple arrow keys for the offsets (x + z) (maybe PageUp and Down for y), scale could be done with shift and the arrow keys
- There is already a list of used items, it should be possible to take them from there - just as from the library - to duplicate and of course also with the usual ctrl + c and ctrl + v so it has the same scale.
And some probably more complex ones
- add a categorization for the tiles so they can be filtered accordingly, of course also have an alphabetic listing and not one huge list
- this one is probably not feasible, but it would be nice if the default scale of the individual items would match each other. E.g. a human being should be slightly smaller than the door in a house, and a horse slightly taller. A bucket should not be higher than the knees of humans, etc.
