Norton 360 doesn't like the .981.2 update

The update got stuck in quarantine. Go figure. The explanation from Symantec:

"WS.Reputation.1 is a detection for files that have a low reputation score based on analyzing data from Symantec’s community of users and therefore are likely to be security risks. Detections of this type are based on Symantec’s reputation-based security technology. Because this detection is based on a reputation score, it does not represent a specific class of threat like adware or spyware, but instead applies to all threat categories"

In other words, someone (or ones) reported that the update is a security risk.

Anyone else encounter this?

I thought it common practice to disable anti-virus b/c stuff like that may happen.

No reason it can't be turned back on after the game is done updating.

Norton's reputation "feature" appears to flag nearly anything that they have not seen before as a threat. It doesn't mean anyone reported it, but rather that it's just new. Honestly, the recommended solution is to switch to a better AV product.

First of all, I wouldn't advise anyone to disable AV software in order to download anything, even from a trusted site. That's just asking for trouble.

Second, Kryo's clarification of Norton's reputation feature is well taken. However, I doubt there is anything such as a "better AV product". As review after review have shown, they all have flaws and can, and will, miss security risks. Norton certainly has it's share of problems. I am familiar with many of them. However, this was the first time I encountered this warning.

I use avast and Microsoft security essentials and never have a problem. Norton has come installed on almost every computer i have ever bought but it seems to slow the computer down and false flags way too much--that is just my perception of norton i am sure others think it is the best thing since sliced bread but i just consider it a system hog.

I treat Norton as a virus. It gets removed first thing on whatever computer I find it on. Whether that is a computer I have purchased or a computer I am working on for a family/friend.

And of course, it never sees the light of day on a computer I build.
